I believe that's calcite crystal forming that shape. Possibly filling the void from some kind of shell?

The rest are just pictures of the rest of the rock in case that helps any

Pretty sure that this is just an old potato

Very cool. Such perfect hearts.
Vertron
The stone looks volcanic, if so cannot be a fossil.
NOYFBAH
Lol volcanic?! It's just limestone. With plain old calcite crystal
Adin1
Oh my God this is fascinating somebody update me if the answer is found, but it does look like that rock was smacked against something man-m
NOYFBAH
I find a lot of shell fossils in this area. I think is has to at the very least be marine animal in nature.... If it's a fossil. It looks
NOYFBAH
Like something in the rock was replaced by calcite or maybe selenite. I've found a lot of fossil rocks with this type of crystal. Notshape?

I mean, duh. What are those "it's a heart" lunatics on about?

The honeycomb-like portion looks like coral.
venomlash
Those heart shapes are almost certainly oblique slices through snail shells. The shell material would have originally been aragonite, but
venomlash
Well okay, probably A snail shell (singular) with a really wide, inflated profile (turbinate) so you're seeing slices through both sides.
venomlash
aragonite is unstable under most burial conditions and gradually recrystallizes to calcite (another form of CaCO3), accounting for the
venomlash
blocky, sparry texture. The honeycomb feature on the other side of the rock might be a tabulate coral. Hard to say though.
NOYFBAH
Definitly could be that. I've seen that pattern of holes in several rocks locally three maybe 4. Not real sure what it is.

Maybe this helps you on the way..... https://www.paleontica.org/id_system/fossil_id.php Very nice stone...Goodluck!...

Wish I spoke German lol looks like a nice site

Ahh sweet I found the English button!

I am from The Netherlands. Geologie is very cool, unless you believe a certain book.... I think it is a cross section of a animal or a plant
NOYFBAH
Venemlash seems to know his stuff thinks it could be a cross section of a snail. I think it's a shell of some kind but there's just not
NOYFBAH
Enough there to make a good determination

Could it have been against a man-made object to make those marks? They look a lot like the design on kids princess crowns/jewelry etc.
NOYFBAH
I know shells can make some interesting shapes if you cut them in half... I'm thinking it might be a void that filled with calcite
NOYFBAH
I agree, just a random piece of landscape limestone. Picked up and kept it because I saw some shiney in it. Wasn't till I got it wet I saw t
