Sony Computer Entertainment v. Connectix Corporation, 203 F.3d 596 (2000), is a decision by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals which ruled that the copying of a copyrighted BIOS software during the development of an emulatorsoftware does not constitute copyright infringement, but is covered by fair use. The court also ruled that Sony's PlayStationtrademark had not been tarnished by Connectix Corp.'s sale of its emulator software, the Virtual Game Station.

IT,s the same with peer to peer torrenting or direct download, the tech isn't illegal, what file you share is.
TheTwistedEmperor
Is Nintendo going to learn their lesson
BongoSchlongo
Whatever... I'll download them. Some games are not playable anymore without using an emulator. So... Fuck you Nintendo and 1/
TheTwistedEmperor
I already downloaded some games Tales of Phantasia and Pokemon Emerald
BongoSchlongo
Whoever wants to ban them
cobragrunt
If you are 16 and have an empty bottle in your car, they are gonna call that an open container.
Remreemerer
In what state?
cobragrunt
In Georgia is you have an open container at any age is it illegal. Empties still count.
StanleyBearable
I don't use emulators, but I've felt for a long time that if a game is old enough, it should be free. The next best thing would be
BeardicPerformance
It should be like books, after a certain point they become public domain.
TheTwistedEmperor
Exactly
StanleyBearable
To have a subscription service with lots of old games you can play.
WolololoWarrior
Agreed, or start building up a Stock in public libraries
itsthesneak
Sorry citizen, didn’t you realize that copyright laws are for corporations? Mickey Mouse never will be public domain! /laughs corporately
BeardicPerformance
Looking at copyright law, it’s basically the story of how the government keeps changing the law to keep Mickey Mouse out of public domain.
HamsterFightClub
Hail emulators.
HamsterFightClub
Praise Roms
AtheistNotAntiTheist
Like owning a gun. you can own one. But don't start shooting up the street.
ijoinedtoolate
That is not like this.
VesuvianPrime
Nah its like driving a car. You can drive wherever you want, but don't go running people over.
TheHelleri
Well emulators are used for other things as well which are legal.
TheTwistedEmperor
Yeah what Nintendo is really doing is violating some laws
TheHelleri
Huh?

Maybe if Nintendo gave us a way to play classic games legally, people wouldn't pirate them.
filben7
Or maybe we dont need to pay again to play a 30 year old game? Maybe be cool and just include the damn things on your system for free.
DodgeDuckDipDiveDodge
No, they would. People will always make up excuses for why they pirate, regardless of the situation.

Pokemon yellow and classic games are available on ds, switch, along with nes classic, do you live under a rock??
disturbingfavourites
Is the NES classic that overpriced one with the cables that are too short and limited stock? The cheaply manufactured one?
spiderhyphenjenn
A good portion of the games on the classic are also on switch and Ds. Keep using rooms if you want, but Nintendo has addressed this

I'm just going by reviews & articles I've read, though I haven't been folowing news since its release.
spiderhyphenjenn
I have one, second hand and I like the nes classic. People forget they were originally made with 3ft cords in a time where your face was...
