To me, graffiti and street art are in a way the most genereous art forms. Not only are the artists giving their art away for free. They also pay for the materials out of their own pockets (the paint can cost up to $100 per art piece and more still for a large wall covering mural). And they risk heavy fines and possible violence from the authorities on top of that!
My great respect to those that reclaim the common space for art. Thank you for reminding us of who cities are actually built for - not corporations, but the people living there. We as a collective are the real owners of these spaces, not those who have papers claiming otherwise. The funds to build skyscrapers, shopping malls and infrastructure buildings all originate from the people. As does actual power. Politicians and businessmen would like us to forget that. Let's not.

When I was homeschooling my son, we spent a whole day driving around our home town looking at public art (not all street art, but some). It remains one of our best homeschooling memories of 7 years of homeschooling. I discovered so much about my home town that day. This post is amazing

I have to drive through Atlanta, GA, a few times a year, and the only thing that makes it tolerable is the wonderful graffiti that can be seen on the highway embankment. I've risked my life by pulling over a few times just to get a better look. It's that good.
