This happens mostly at random and with different film reels. If I put some inward pressure on the film gate then it almost, bit not quite, goes away.
This section of film does not have any splices.
Anybody have experience with this issue?

The source reel media is wound too tight.

Hmm, that's possible... These reels are rather old. I'll try spooling onto a pickup.
