We poured epoxy with jacquard micropearl, black pearl, and a little gold leaf spray paint last night. Base coat is latex paint and primer. No polyurethane. Smooth to touch however there are cosmetic defects under the surface.

Odd bubbles under surface. Not palpable.

The entire table looks like this, but again is smooth on top. We are going to sand and try again, but what should we do differently?

I believe your paint may be the problem. Could be not long enough cure time before epoxy. They don't look like trapped air bubbles

Did u lightly blowtorch the top after pouring? The flame sucks the bubbles out of the resin before drying.

Yes we used a blowtorch to get out the surface bubbles. The imperfections are below the surface. Its super wierd!

Your paint might be a problem. Poly won't react but it's more expensive. Maybe use a poly primer instead of latex.

Thanks! We are going to try a test piece using our paint as a base to see if it happens again.

Small scale is definitely the least costly fix. I usually seal with poly or a thin epoxy layer. You can add your base color into that layer.

Didnt realize paint would be a problem, was going to try another epoxy project. Glad I clicked this. Thanks.

Your best bet is to always do a small test. Hope it goes well!
