Players trekking through a purple worm nest. Work was busy and I couldn't plan the whole session out but a nat 1 stealth check is every DM's favorite thing when they aren't prepared for a full session

Sometimes just dropping g some wierd obstacle in thier path works just fine. No planned solution just see what they do with it. Reward them if they come up with a clever solution.

Traditionally, that is my way to go but here they are approaching a major plot point in the campaign and I also wanted to give them some sense of what they're fully fighting. They've fought infant and juvenile purple worms but they're prepping to go after a queen so a failed stealth check allows the party to get an encounter that will be dangerous but not deadly. I had the worm attack NPCs first so the party could get a feel for how combat would flow
