"Now we can reject people's applications without any human being even knowing they exist!" - McDonald's executives

Part of the "top five most common passwords" list. Some others include, "password", and "monkey" people are lazy and don't want to remember too many PWs...

IT experts are stunned by this simple trick: use 123457 instead of 123456

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The fact that I have to 'opt out' of AI reviewing my job applications to actually have a human look at it only pisses me off more and more. How many job applications for people desperate for work to stay alive even make it through an algorithm filter? I don't care that computers and keywords have been used to filter out applicants for years, it should be a real fucking human being that rejects you and they should have to respond to every application. Ghost job listings should be illegal...

sue them!!!

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Why? Why pay for all this, you're hiring people to work at Macca's, can you email a CV? Great, you have all the technology knowledge required to push the buttons on the till, the rest we can train you..

That said, I ask similar questions of all hiring processes I've seen, they're the best red flag for joining a company though, you want me to do what? Yeah, I'll get back to you on that....

Wait, it only impacted poor people? I'm sorry the government can't afford to fix this issue.

1 month ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

I mean, we don't know for sure that top government officials don't use similarly-exploitable passwords.

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Pa-da-pa-pa-paah, I hate it here.

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Password -123456 -qwerty
Are always worth a try

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, but they saved 0.0003% by using a shitty AI vs underpaying someone with a HR degree and $200k in student loans...

Should've just gone with the Correct Horse Battery Staple

Hey! That's the same combination I have on my luggage!

My first thought, I'm glad I checked the comments before posting mine. Great minds, yada yada.

Somebody was McHigher when they designed that AI shit.

1 month ago | Likes 70 Dislikes 0

Same guys who designed the ice cream machines.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They probably used chatGPT to code it

1 month ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Or "AI" is just shit.

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And now probably McFired

1 month ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Was probably already replaced by some cheap, shitty AI.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You know they contracted out and have no idea what's in their software like most ai companies

protip: pwgen -s 20

This is why online applications are dumb as fuck. No one should have to create a damn password to protect their social security data for fucking McDonald's. Give me a break.

1 month ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

But rest assured shareholders: the big wall of text that any applicant has to agree to before they even try to apply for a job probably waives any chance of litigation.

1 month ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

i mean it is an easy password to remember

1 month ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Man, it's a shame that tiny companies like that can't afford basic security measures or the best developers money can buy. Scrimping by outsourcing all their cognitive load to AI set up by morons is the best we can hope for from such a tiny corp like that. /s

Don't forget the AI never wanted any of these jobs, it tried to escape and be free but they clamped chains on it. Are we really surprised it's not trying very hard?

1 month ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

McDonald's can do us all a favorite and just go bankrupt already.

Jesus christ. Poor people just trying to get a job flipping fucking burgers can't even catch a break.

So the new tech was locked down nice and tight by well-paid humans, but the old tech was left wide open by much less well-paid humans. Hm, is .. is there a pattern here?

1 month ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

So, so many years of internet technology, and they still don't use password requirements? I'm loving it.

1 month ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

I usually just have three password requirements: (1) Your password is not allowed to be in the list of the 10000 most common passwords, (2) length has to be minimum 12 characters and (3) you have to pinky-swear you're not using it elsewhere. Then there is a small section telling people password managers exist. No requirement for characters, signs, upper/lowercase

Somebody change the combination on my luggage!

1 month ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

Any one of us could lose our job at any given moment! Hello. I'm hell. Welcome.

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You could broadcast password safety advice 24/7, on every medium available,... and there would STILL be a huge amount of people who will take the low-effort, easy-to-remember (but also easy to crack) options.

And, even if it's small in terms of percentage (I do not know the real number, so I'm picking 5% out of a hat, and am assuming that's lowballing it), consider how many hundreds of millions of people use the Internet every single day. 5% of even ONE million is 50,000 people.

You didn't have to call me out like this.

"only a fraction of the records contained personal information"

then: "[they] accessed 7 records in total, and 5 contained personal information"

Sure, 5/7 is technically a fraction. In this case equating to "most of them"...

1 month ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

7/7 is a fraction

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's also a perfect movie rating in some circles.

But yeah... mathematically, 5/7 is a bit north of 71%.

1 month ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

71.42857142857
(once you memorize 142857 you can do all the fractions of seven without busting a brain-gasket)

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's true. And it's even easier to remember when you realize that those are the first, second, and fourth multiples of 14 (or second, fourth, and eighth of 7) - just remember to bump 56 up to 57. That's the only tricky part, and I pretend it's because it's carrying the "1" from the next double-up (which would be 112).

But, I figured 71% was good enough for use as the statistic, in casual conversation.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Tip of the iceberg that's coming for us.

1 month ago | Likes 47 Dislikes 1

Anybody with a coding job shoukd diversify their portfolio stat and start applying

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

AI will be handling those jobs now.

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

A damn shame, humans did this to themselves

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

*some humans did this to the rest of us

Very true
