also key belief: all the wealth should be concentrated in as few hands as possible; preferably people already related to them.

Cool trick you can use to vet any political ideology, right, left, or in between- Do they think the truth matters? Not do they always tell the truth, or know what it is; just do they value it on principle? Because without that, there is no real morality. Ends justify the means, objective reality is lost, and you end up with something that political science nerds might not define as fascism, but still works as a great substitute.

You can't "Tell Truth to Power", if there is no Truth.

American Conservatism is just a fancy way of saying fascist.

Whatever they can do to uphold the hierarchy.

Beat me to it. I was just typing a long thing that came to the same end. The only constant is the preservation of hierarchy.

The Puritans were fleeing religious persecution and then showed up and did the same thing to the indigenous that they were fleeing from.

Religious freedom for some. Fuck the rest

Conservatism isn't even really a political view, it's just people on the sociopathy spectrum making excuses for it.

When I was young I was puzzled by the word Conservative, because the normal english definition of the word didn't seem to fit with the political aims of the people who described themselves that way. I figured that its one of those situations where the label remained but history had so evolved the thing that was labeled, that the two didn't match. But now I think a bit differently. the root of Conservative, that seems to apply across the years, is "The Preservation of Hierarchy"

Are there no honest republicans left?

Everything they say and do makes total sense if you filter it through the lens of them wanting total power over others at all costs. Even contradictions. I've seen epople joke that they'll say shit like "if you were born male you'll always be male and you can't change that" but also "if you're a guy who likes [traditionally feminine thing] you should have your man card taken away." Which is only contradictory if you don't consider that the difference is who is getting to decide your identity.

It's a vicarious thrill for the stupid, being on the bully's side.

Completely correct - which is why calling them out on it doesn’t work. They simply don’t care.

Doesn't work as a means of getting them to stop or getting their supporters to abandon them. Does work as a means of getting people not already in the bag to be more skeptical of them, and supporting morale of the people who are against them.

Hypocrisy is a tenant of fascism. YOU have to do what they say, but they dont even have to do what they say.

An echo from Sartre back in the 1940's

It's an expression of the power they have over others to be able to be nakedly hypocritical, that's why they like it
