I completely agree. That's exactly how I've always bought tools. But those JCB tools really are cheap and and nasty. I'll buy a brand like Erbauer if I just want something basic. Jumping to something like Knipex is light and shade better in quality though.
Get a cheap version to see what it's like, and if it's what you need, then pay for quality. If you end up not using it all that much, the cheap will do. If you manage to break it (from use, not abuse), it's actually worth it to spend on it.

I disagree, first buy the cheap version of a tool. If you wear it out or use it loads then buy the best version you can afford
