I have a small architecture firm where I am both the best and the worst employee (and the boss can be an ass sometimes)

In 2019 I got this project; design a modern 5bd/3ba house on a wonderful plot of land facing a lake. It has now entered the construction phase!

The plot had a sharp tilt, which necessitated a basement floor and a large ground floor.

The zoning plan had very stringent demands here, for example: maximum building height was 6 meters at the highest point. This forced the roof down to a mere 2 degree incline (will need snow clearing measures)

The owners wanted lots of windows facing the lake, so I suggested triple pane glas with argon filling as well as built-in lamellar curtains for heat control during the summer. The house faces the lake to the south, the north facade is nearly solid, except for the entrance.

It’s happening! I’m so excited!

I originally suggested prefabricated sandwich walls, but the builders took another path.

View from the nearly flat roof. I hope they go by my suggestion to lay grass and moss here, it will further insulate the house and make it more discrete from the road. It will also lower the visual impact for travellers who want to see the lake.

Cool, I like it!

More of this @Dewon. Well done! It takes a long time and lots of work to get there

You should give that employee a raise.

If those are HAKI scaffolding (looks like it) then both me and especially my father have probably had a hand i making them. Good stuff!

"but the builders took another path" as a fellow architectural designer, i know that pain

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It looks wonderful. What does the kitchen look like?

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I’d like to show more internal pictures, might do that in a follow-up post!

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Congrats. Personally I don't understand this modern design, but to each their own

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Please show@more! What’s the total cost of a project like that

2 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 0

The final bill isn’t in yet, but I estimate the cost of the plot, construction and utilities at around 1,8 - 2 million USD.

Is this including your services?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ah, an average weeks pay. Not bad for a second vacation home.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Way more then I could afford but still looks beautiful. Should be proud

Thank you so much! :)

Sweet! Is that an outdoor sauna in matching design?

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

PS: Look at the roof of the sauna. I added the obligatory lost soccerball. ;)

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Precisely!

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Just lovely.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The renderings are amazing. Could you me wich Software you used?

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I used three; ArchiCad for the plans, sketchup pro for some simple detailing (corniches and some of the furniture) and finally Lumion 11.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Stunning! I'd live there if I had that kind of money.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I once had a Minecraft house with a similar design. Very cool my dude.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ok but that is BEAUTIFUL and I’d love to live there.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

I’ll take one!

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The heating bill is going to be epic, but people who build houses like that just don't care.

2 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 2

The triple pane argon filled windows help a lot, crazy expensive

2 years ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 1

Probably need to heat the roof to keep it clear though...

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

dude is in sweden. probably hell of building codes on minimum heat insulation capacity of all new houses.

2 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Windows are terrible at insulation compared to other building materials, doesn't matter how many panes or argon there is.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 10

of course it matters. i'll bet there's a maximum design heat loss regardless of materials. probably max Watt per m2 for heating too.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

The problem is, building materials have to meet minimum code, not the house total, because it's almost impossible to measure.

I’m fresh out of undergrad working at a mid sized firm this is a dream project! I’m jealous

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That house is absolutely ridiculous, unnecessarily huge and seems to be at the fucking of the world. I want it. I want it now!

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That is incredible! Congratulations! Love it!

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What kind of snow clearing does a nearly flat roof need? I ask because it doesn't snow where I live and I have no idea if that's hard or not

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Either a heating system or just plain ol’ shoveling!

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Oh ok. I assume these people are wealthy enough to opt for the low effort heated version so its no bother for them.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The views will be incredible in the snow!

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

But where's the important part, the garage?

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You can see it to the left side in the second picture; it has a reverse incline compared to the main building to allow solar panels!

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I see it. Very cool.?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Congratulations it's gorgeous! I had a dream to be an architect when I was young. It'll always be a dream. I'm glad you got to do it!

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This is beautiful ? can I visit?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

How neat! Looks cool! Would totally live there if I could!

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

Thank you! Just move to Sweden and I’ll design your house at a discount! :)

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

If I ever win the Eurojackpot, I'll be sure to hire you. ;)

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Have been working on and off in Sweden this year (American). I’ll be sad when this job is over.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Where in Sweden? It’s beautiful here, I agree!

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Stockholm. Also visited Uppsala.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

One day, I'll take you up on that offer! When I win the lottery, or something

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

congrats! seems like a pretty decent commission - of course the accomplishment is infinitely more valuable... but still :)

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That'll be $3.50.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

That’s what the Nessie in the lake offered

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

very nice house. I too own my own business and that guy was a real asshole, he made me work all the time

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Dang these Minecraft shader upgrades are getting really good looking!

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

+1 ... I tidied my flat a little 2 days ago..

2 years ago | Likes 69 Dislikes 2

Ugh, I need to do that too, why do you think I found the time to do this?

2 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

It looks amazing. Congratulations on the accomplishment. Hindsight being what it is, would you do everything the same way again?

2 years ago | Likes 194 Dislikes 1

Thank you! I think I would have drawn the plans with thicker walls and bearing; it was sad to reduce the room sizes later!

Sweden?

2 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 0

Yup!

2 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 0

Was gonna asked how the fick you got clued in on that, then i zoomed in on the pictures. Lorry/trailer was the give away. (:

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yes, the swedish cranes are wimbly and weak just as their war acomplishments in the second world war, unlike their neighbors.
