We have fruit trees in our yard, so we practice "No mow May" to let the pollinators do their thing.

The city sent us a four-page notice of violation through registered mail. I understand keeping your yard tidy, but come on. Is this really the biggest issue right now?

EDIT: We were planning on mowing June 1, and the letter we got says we have until June 11 to remedy the 'situation.' The Mrs. is planning on taking this to the next council meeting.

Mowing is the dumbest chore

Don’t know what city you’re in, but 2 items
1. I worked in bylaw in Toronto, typically enforcement is complaints based-you likely have a douche for a neighbour
2. Typically you can use bureaucracy to your advantage-you often get 30 days to comply, and you can appeal. File an appeal, grab it out until more typical pollen producers arrive, then mow

"No mow may for pollinators" is a lot better than my excuse of "I absolutely hate yard work and haven't been able to motivate myself to mow the stupid lawn all month.

Both are equally valid, lawns are a blight on society

Canada. It's not even like we live in an area with an HOA.

I *used* to be friends w/ a woman who, anytime she got mad at any of her neighbors, she’d call county code enforcement on them for stuff like this. And she wondered why everyone found her exhausting to be around…

Pull out grass and weeds, then plant bative plants. Seeds or starts. If not a lawn (it's a meadow), then no need to mow. Often, native plants get special protection. Plus, they do way more for pollinators than Random Stuff

Don't you have to get an exception or something in some areas for that?

Maybe in some very specific suburban HOAs. But generally, no. Certainly not in my city.

For some reason I think you can file here, to avoid citations and stuff. Not HOA related. I don't have any experience with those.
