This series has no need to be as good as it is. They could've done all the cliché fan service nostalgia laden stuff with lightsaber and spaceship battles every 15 mins to appease the general audience, but no. They made a simple, engaging story with enjoyable characters. Hell, you even like the antagonists.
Another way to look at that might be that every other fuckin show and movie going is falling at this very basic first hurdle in telling a compelling story.
Rise of Skywalker infamously started from “cool visuals they wanted to see” (dark side Rey with a new lightsaber, red-eyed C3PO, etc) and then worked backwards to build a story around them.
Something I've had to come to terms with since seeing Rise of Skywalker once when it came out and then not watching a mainline Star Wars movie since, I don't think I can really say I'm a star wars fan. I mostly like quality things in its orbit, Andor feels like one of those.
Unpopular opinion here I know, but I must be the only person who watched the show that doesn't hate Syril Karn. His greatest flaw (in regard to the narrative) is being overly ambitious. He was actually right about everything and only failed because he was outclassed by two better/smarter people. My mans even looked the ISB directly in the face and challenged them point-blank. My mans solved a double-homicide in two days with no resources, despite the fact that no one else on his team cared.
Coupled with his clearly horrible upbringing when we find out what his mother is like, and it seems amazing to me this guy isn't a complete ass hole to anyone and everyone. The greatest thing he lacks is charisma. Andor spent the entire show and backstory being a selfish ass hole that manipulated everyone he knew into getting what he wanted and we all love him. Syril wants to bring a literal murderer to justice and everyone hates him. It's a bit more nuanced than that, I know, but still.
His boss had it right, they picked a fight and lost, he actually solved that double murder with just glancing at the report. The boss's failing was a lack of loyalty or fealty to the system, instead wanting to keep things quiet and calm looking for profit rather than risk it all to retaliate to keep control.
The two of them show the two sides of the imperial system, the corporate uncaring profits above people side and the fanatical egotistical desire to enforce "order" at all costs side.
His boss was right, but still dismissed actual murders. Yes, in the grand scale, the boss was doing the right thing, but Karn didn't know/understand that. He was still doing his job as corporate security. I'm not arguing about his general demeanor, but his overall attitude toward what was going on. He was still right about everything that was going on.
I could write paragraphs on the tragedy of Nurchi. I particularly think of him sat alone just before his end, listening to the funeral, perhaps realising he’s sold out his community and won’t ever get it back.

#10 Syril Karn is legitimately my favorite character in Andor.

#2 I remember watching that part and thinking that it was extreme, but we've had similar things happen here before. I no longer think it's extreme.

I had a lot of fun with it. About the only issue I had with it was the reveal that Jod was a former Jedi.

Don't put it past Disney to absolutely trash a show after a strong first season. Hope it's good, but prepared for gobshite.

As I keep saying, Syril Karn is Inspector Javert as played by Arnold Rimmer.

#9: Not many characters solve problems as… thoroughly… as Cinta.
TheGhostofElizabethShue
Honestly yeah, I'd bring a problem to her first, Brasso a close second.
meme2zombie
Depends on if you want killing to be the 1st or 3rd option. :P
TheGhostofElizabethShue
Cinta for the problem, Brasso for the alibi.
WolfOfLore
Brasso gives support. Cinta guts your problems and leaves the body in the street.

Also, Cinta with a shiv, and Brasso with a big-ass brick

#1 Haven't watched any SW related content since S1 of Andor, So yeah, looking forward to S2.

Skeleton Crew was a lot of fun. It's more light hearted and less political than Andor, but has similarly good writing and characters.

Battle4ngel
To be fair, the nine mainline movies constitute maybe at most 1% of the franchise anyways. It's a BIG orbit with lots of cool stuff to discover!
Magnar1183
I just want a series starring Lop from that one episode of the first season of Star Wars Visions

Mmm, I’d say it’s a lot of dross to sift through with a few gems. But then… I might be becoming increasingly hard to please.

#10 He's an amazingly depicted terrible person with depth and things you can empathize with all while doing terrible things for selfish reasons.

I mean he is a complete asshole to anyone and everyone :D
The big thing for me is he didn't want to bring a murderer to justice for justice reasons, he wanted to do it for personal gain and ego.

That’s it. He’s a baddie and I hate him, but I love how I hate him.

That means he is a well-written character.
Which, let's be honest, describes almost every character in the show.
TheGhostofElizabethShue
If there’s one who isn’t I certainly haven’t seen them.

Nurchi was kind of flat and one-dimensional. That's the only one who's coming to mind, though.
