"Aright, I'm now I'm gonna quit it again..." THE HELL YOU ARE!!!

Staged for the camera, all he had to do is push the nose over to get the propeller to spin. !!

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Aka When the senior dev has seen shit go sideways too many times and no longer has fear of prod. Do not give these devs keys to prod.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Also that's me. Don't give me your prod keys please. I don't need any more of them.

That's why he got out of the plane. To get some cool air while fixing the fan

Piper Cub, the Tin Lizzy of the skies.

The new live action Tailspin looks good.

This guy is almost as cool as Launchpad McQuack.

"we are gettin lower."

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

the rope somehow makes it worse

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

You either get it right, or suddenly it's not your problem anymore

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Perfect metaphor for working in IT. Oh, then having management call you 'Overhead'.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Is the rope the workaround, or the backup software?

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

LOL!

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And at the funeral they all say it was a tragic accident as if he wasn't hanging out of a plane with a shitty piece of rope for a safety.

3 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

It couldn't be considered a tragedy, more a blessing he made it so long in life. Against all odds.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It was a nice rope. Shitty harness.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That's fair, its not the ropes fault it was tied like that.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is why I like small planes. And even if they can’t get things working, they can still get down safely.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

It's like repairing the plane, but when you're in the sky..

3 years ago | Likes 180 Dislikes 0

Repainting the plain in the sky

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Technically the difference between a surgeon and a mechanic is that one fixes machines while they are running

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Amazing he could fit back in the plane given the ENORMOUS testicles he clearly owns.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

After the sacred heart closed down, JD found a new profession.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Fly by the seat of your pants, die by the seat of your pants.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

"Wow those are suspiciously cheap tickets....fuck it what's the worst that could happen?"

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

abso-fucking-lutely NOT

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Given the alternative, I too would climb outside the plane to restart the engine

Never Cry Wolf airplane scene: 2:26 on…https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PAbU7Ha3jTA

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Came here to post this! "How do you defeat boredom, Tyler?"

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yep, that scene scared me as a kid.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I mean, this works too. But couldn't he just dive down a bit to get the propeller rotating? Plenty of room to dive and way safer.

3 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Possibly not in this type. They go excruciatingly slow. Would probably break apart at the speed necessary.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Nope. Even in a Piper Cub (J-3) you’d dive gently, gain a little airspeed, and windmill the prop. Or glide down. You’d never hand-prop…

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

…a plane in flight like this. Way too dangerous

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is a stunt, you’d never hand-prop an aircraft in flight.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah, he could have just dived a bit.... or not stopped the engine in the first place. But then he wouldn't have a cool video to share.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Totally. It's staged : the propeller was nearly turning by itself and just needed a small push. Dangerous move (height and propeller).

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes, but that doesn't make for as many internet points.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

3 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 2

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Where's that from? Looks like Calvin & Hobbes kind of drawing

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Its is.

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I hear tell that this is the hardest comic panel ever drawn..

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It seems like he's done that a few times before

3 years ago | Likes 651 Dislikes 1

ya, fixing shit live in production, everyday.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He shut the fuel off. So I am guessing the was not an accident.

3 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Yes. It's staged. You can stall a plane like that on purpose.

3 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 2

I....don't think "staged" properly describes the above video. Accurate, but it feels....lacking.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

*Windows updates

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It looks like it's done on purpose during a training. Except for the safety belt rope, but not all countries have the same standards.

3 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

The hand-prop isn’t a training exercise. You would never hand-prop a plane in flight like this. It’s a stunt.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I should mention, an occasional stunt in Piper Cubs. They fly so slow there’s time to dick around like this.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yup. Maybe he should think about getting a new plane. I dunno, I probably would.

3 years ago | Likes 90 Dislikes 0

One does not simply own a Cub, the Cub owns you.

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Do you know how expensive a plane is ? probably not, you are too poor to know that

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 10

This is missing an /s...

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You can get an older Piper Cub for around $30k.

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

And then the license/certs/registrations for another $250k

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

A single engine piston and a tailwheel costs 250k? You're getting ripped off my friend

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The correct way is to push nose down and the prop would spin and start engine. But this dude is obviously showing off.

3 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 0

It’s 100% staged. In a J-3 (which has no electric start as built) you’d either just dive and windmill the prop or land if the engine died.

3 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

(Actually, if that fuel tank is in the wing, that might be a wartime L-4, a further refinement of the J-3)

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A hand start in flight is purely a stunt.

3 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

3 years ago | Likes 48 Dislikes 0

This is simply incredible. To be able to do all that and still, possibly, have some safety margins.. oh my. True skills are never overrated.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Is that the same plane? It looks like the same plane

3 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

It's a piper cub, there are lots of them. It's basically a Cessna from the 30's

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Both are Piper J3C-65 "Cubs" https://aircraft-data.">m/N92028">https://aircraft-data.com/N92028 https://aircraft-data.com/N4693S

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Oh thank goodness, I thought I was going crazy - I don't know much about planes At All but my brain just wouldn't shut up about how much >

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

they looked like cubs.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I think it's the same type in same colors.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Ok no for real how does that end?

3 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

$35,000+ in damages and an unapproved insurance claim.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It ends when he lands again, it's a stunt pilot at an airshow, its all entertainment... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SKnX03cJKxg

3 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

Different airplanes (same model & color, different numbers). Still probably staged, though I'm not sure... ==>

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Fkn nopeity nope

3 years ago | Likes 233 Dislikes 2

With the nopeity rope!

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I actually think a cure for my fear of heights would be the sense of control that comes from operating a vehicle. Then I see this

3 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

As someone who grew up with a crippling fear of heights but then got their pilot's license, I can say it's mostly about the sense of control

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

When was the moment where you overcame the fear? The instant you took flight, or after?

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

During my first "intro flight" I could instantly tell most of my anxiety went away, even just sitting in the front seat made a difference.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Maybe I'll get to the clouds one day

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They are remarkably calm through all this.

3 years ago | Likes 132 Dislikes 0

They did this on purpose.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

not to worry you can easily land those unpowered

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If a plane's engine stops, it won't fall put of the sky like in cartoons. They can still land it with enough skill.

3 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Because it’s a stunt people sometimes pull in Cubs, not normal practice.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I imagine that all the ones who panicked don't fly anymore

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's a light sport plane. It's not hard to hit the ground safely. The hard part of landing is being able to take off again.

3 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

They're flying a Cub, this is situation normal.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's staged. Stall the plane on purpose then restart it.

3 years ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 5

Practice*

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

"Stall" is a bad word in flying. "Kill the engine" is better.

3 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

However with certain engines like ramjets you can actually aerodynamically stall the engine

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

OK, but there are, what? Less than 100 planes in the world that use ramjets?

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is sweet ramjet in the video

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So saying kill is preferable? Cool

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You mean stall the plane and assume you'll be able to restart it. Huge difference

3 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

These small planes are essentially powered gliders and can land almost anywhere like grass. I'm sure they did it close to a landing zone.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yep, I had a job site near me where I was out hiking open land and I kept hearing plane engines suddenly stop and I'd freak out but they'd

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

just get 'em going again within a couple minutes, must have been a practice area.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A pilot I knew says "the cool thing about crashing is, the more you do it, the better you get in it". So I figure it's something like that.

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Because all the deadly crashes weed out the bad pilots until only the aces are left.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Either they fix it or it won't be a problem soon.

3 years ago | Likes 80 Dislikes 1

But, but, when they fix it, it will no longer be a problem

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Also entirely possible to land a smaller plane without an engine. Just gotta find a suitable spot.

3 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 0

I assure you that the inevitable landing is not contingent on finding a suitable spot.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There's a handful of stories about people landing planes with the pilot incapacitated... but they 100% had training with smaller craft. 1/

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

I think one, the pilot was having a heart attack and landed it himself.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Actually flying and controlling a smaller craft isn't that hard. I have done that with no prior training. The difficulty comes in when ...

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

It's a plane, not a helicopter.

3 years ago | Likes 119 Dislikes 1

Helicopters don't fly, they are repulsed from the Earth out of spite for God and nature.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Safer to try to get a helicopter to start then a plane especially in free dive, although a plane can make a safer glide slope to land

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

We can autorotate.

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

That's just falling with style.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've always wanted to meet a transformer... though the helicopters are mostly decepticons

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Engine going out on both honestly isn't that much of a crisis depending on location. Glide to airfield or autorotate to something stable.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Middle of ocean. Crisis. Mountains. Crisis. Near airports and flat land, manageable.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Lol. Mental image of falling chopper and pilot trying to flip the main rotor to start the engine. "Every damn time..."

3 years ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 0

I do know about autorotation and how incredibly difficult it would be to stop the rotor in the first place. Just to clarify before someone..

3 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 0

Falling through the air also forces the main prop back into motion. Using that energy to land is a thing pilots practice.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Here they intentionally cut the engine and land with that momentum https://youtu.be/hkQbVvqmRoI

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Autorotation Affixiation

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

..rushes in with Knowledge

3 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 0

I did autorotation once or twice in a sim and I can faithfully say you don’t want me as your pilot

3 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

AKTCHUALLYYYYY

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I like the rope on his belt. Like that would do *anything.*

3 years ago | Likes 869 Dislikes 5

It's because the pants are a family heirloom that go with the plane

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

It's just there to save his belt from falling, not him.

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

It's so when they find his mangled body it won't have pants.

3 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

He's flying a lawnmower with engine problems.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Always have a rope on hand. Fallout 1 taught me that.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just enough to give him a major wedgie before his death.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I think you mean the "Safety Harness".

3 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 0

It will make sure that when he falls the plan gets turned over and crashes faster

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It would allow him to flash everyone as he landed, all of whom would have many, many questions.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I dunno, if he's practiced climbing up it enough times there's a chance he could get up in only 10 seconds and give it another try

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 3

It would give him a proper *snap* before he started on his fall, tho.

3 years ago | Likes 88 Dislikes 1

Was thinking the same thing, lol. "Hey, it wooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaggggggghhhhhh!"

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Depends on the lenght of the rope?

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Not really, de nø

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Only if very short or kept taught at all times. A short drop in a static rope can cause servere injuries.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It'd make sure he died with a wedgie

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It would result in the local sheriff trying to figure out where this pantsless flat corpse came from.

3 years ago | Likes 139 Dislikes 0

i think i've seen that Netflix show. isn't Bill Pullman in it?

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That depends on his belt more than the pants

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Mmm, blood pancakes. Just like Newton used to make.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Keep his body near the crash site versus miles away

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Remember when buying a belt, always think "If i was falling and the belt caught, would break, or would i tear in half around it?" getquality

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Everyone here forgetting its real purpose: confidence booster. It's safe, go ahead; you're secured!

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Hey it will prevent him from falling out of the plane.

3 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 3

Best case scenario; he would be dangling underneath the plane as it aimlessly crashes somewhere

3 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

That's my thought. I'd rather just drop. I'm not gonna be able to pull myself back into the plane so the free fall is preferable

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Or, you know... his buddy in the plane with him helps? You realize that camera wasn't just floating in space, right?

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Or at least far from the plane

3 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 1

That's a lot of faith for one belt loop.

3 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

I think it's around the entire belt, which is better than a belt loop but still not great.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yea I was wondering if they cut a hole in their pants for this purpose.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It would stop him escaping from the fiery inferno if he survived the landing...

3 years ago | Likes 333 Dislikes 0

lol it's a J-3 cub, not a lot of fuel in there to make an inferno with.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You don't need a lot of fuel. A few gallons is enough for a fire bigger than that rope.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

And if he fell it would snap him in half

3 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 11

How long do you think that rope is?! Yea, it would hurt. But "snap in half"? No way!

3 years ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 0

Important question here is whether the passenger can fly the plane. If not, it probably just gives more time to ponder your death...

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Adrenaline can’t do a lot, I’m sure the camera person could help pull him up

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Also I’ll add they were keeping it steady while he was out there

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0
