A fully functional washing machine with the fix installed - it doesn't even look bad! I'm kind of digging it.

A part of the door broke around the hinge and caused the whole thing to sag. A new door for the machine costs £140, so I decided to fix it myself for free.

This is the image I used to measure and match the curves in Fusion - taken directly overhead and with a known size object used to scale the 3D model.

This is the final design of the fix. I initially tried to be more fancy and added ribs and webs for support, before realising that they would not fit the machine because I forgot to bring one of the door parts with me before I started measuring...

Some of the prototype parts. The thin one at the top was just a very quick test piece to check if I got the hole positions correct before committing to a larger print. There is also a chopped of part of the broken original door rim that this is replacing.

Original door rim with cutting lines. I originally wanted to glue the white piece to the silver piece, hence the tabs on the sides, but after thinking about it for a bit (and being forced to remove the tabs because there was no room for them) I realised that it didn't really need to be connected to the OG part anyway.

Appliance mechanic here. Good for you man. These things are built to break and be fixed or replaced at high cost. Not for you though!

They're really taking the piss with the replacement part costs - and there was no way to buy just the rim, only the whole door!

200 for the door and 125 for the service call here in america. 300 dollars for almost nothing. I get paid well but i feel like its stealing.

Nice job! Is it a load bearing part, and did you use PLA or something stronger like PETG?
seklerke
Thank you! It is mildly load bearing, but most of the weight of the door is on the moulded inner gray ring. And it's just regular PLA :)

Well, 1) You rock! and 2) I need to look into Fusion if you can just take a picture of something and have it do the curves. Wow.
