Escape2Fantasy
Many fossil specimens are very affordable (like shells, trilobites etc), put them in a good box, and they make great gifts.
Lycoptera Davidi for fish, you can even buy them on wish for $7. I did, it's authentic. It's fish, there's probably tons and tons of them.
Zahnradfee
Do they taste better with lemon or with dill sauce?

Indy was just a thief too, change my mind
undeadyesunpersonno
Damn right!
Voidstrider2230
Yes technically, but he eventually always put his collected artifacts in a museum.
MapleSyrupMafia
So he was British?
Indy would absolutely have put the Elgin Marbles in that little bag of his.
JeffGodofBiscuits
What I'm always curious about is how anyone knew the fossil was in there before breaking it up
thoushaltnotpass
Geology knowledge + usually there's parts of the fossil that sticks out. Here they knew how to break it open in the right orientation.
Sphinxycat
Smells fishy
NostrilSnowboarder
I'm not saying I would know, but I've never seen a naturally occurring baguette shaped rock before this post.
superunderpants
They know because they put the fish there in the first place. Then it's just a question of waiting a few million years and bam!
htapoicoS
He didn't break it up, I think he even brought it there
Well fucking obviously, but they found it somewhere.
chut7
I have a feeling it was probably a slab with a fossil first, then it was sanded down to the right length/width to sell to collectors.
quelin
yep. And they break a lot of rocks to find them. Its pretty much an industrial now.
IupvoteAussies
DrPepper523
No, that's probably a concretion of some sort, a nodule. Around here we've got them that are round or oval, pop right out of shale, have
Ammonites, goniaties, and some fish heads. Even got a full shark jaw.
Iamatalkingape
book learnin' + lots of field work = knows what to look for.
bobziIIa
There’s also some places you can just pay to split rocks in a likely area.
huh... that cleared it right up!

Fish shaped rock
pumpkinpiepatch
Hey that rock is looking fishy
CluBBaH
Fish that looks like rock but bit fishy
jackpkmn
Imperfections in an otherwise smooth rock face. Things like it looking like another rock is sticking out. When you see stuff like this 1/2
you don't see the 100 or so ones with a weird hole or other imperfection that got cracked and had nothing inside as well. 2/2
