I'm glad the BBC happened to Fred, both for the money and recognition. The films of him singlehandedly erecting scaffolding 'round a smokestack and taking them apart from the top down...ooof! He's a hard man, but utterly charming.

I met him once, very briefly. We were collecting a narrowboat for a week's holiday and he was taking the boat next to us at the boatyard.
