Funky binding on 1929 Huxley book + book geek stuff

Book geek alert. This is a copy of volume 2 of Aldous Huxley's Point Counter Point, published in Tauchnitz Editions in two volumes, numbered 4872 and 4873, in 1929.

Tauchnitz Editions were English language books published by a German firm from 1843-1942. Many were early reprints (sometimes simultaneous reprints) of the first editions of English language authors aimed at markets outside of the UK and USA.

The books were on higher quality paper and with good bindings, but in paper covers (paperback). Tauchnitz offered hardbound copies (in a diversity of bindings) and many purchasers chose to rebind the books themselves - leading to a panoply of binding styles over the century Tauchnitz titles were published.

This is undoubtedly someone's idea of a cool binding back in the late 1920s or maybe later - sort of Kandinsky-esque. Also reminiscent of the early 1950s style of Alvin Lustig. https://fishinkblog.com/2010/12/01/alvin-lustig-graphic-artist-architect-and-trend-setter/
