With all the chatter lately regarding developers such as Blizzard, EA and Bethesda making some very selfish decisions with their titles. I thought it is worth bringing to peoples attention when I feel developers go above and beyond for their fans and really do something special. So I am bringing to light something that Gearbox & 2K Games did a while back with Borderlands 2.

The story of Michael Marmaril is that he was a big a fan of Borderlands taken early in life at the age of 22 roughly just under a year before the release of the sequel. Not only did David Eddings (voice of Claptrap) read a eulogy they also included him as an NPC in the game with an achievement. His character gives out free rare components and such if you can find him.

I think this is awesome and exactly the type of things developers should be doi g with their power on a global stage to such an influential audience.

So bif respect to Gearbox & 2K Games for adding something that was very small in terms of effort on their part but has the capacity to touch the hearts of many.

Borderlands 3 is coming!!!!!

I found him one time and never again after that. It made me so mad he wouldnt show up again.

Yeah so Blizzard did one questionable move with announcing something wrong and now we're to think they're the worst ever, right? =D

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Reminds me of that fan's gravestone in Ultima 9.

time for a new game, imgur community.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Best played as co-op

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Not to defend Bethesda, but they did already pay tribute to Erik West with the follower Erik the Slayer.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

One of the best scripted/produced/and voice talent games ever. Music wasn't bad either.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah very cool stuff. Lots of games do this, Blizzard has done it more than once in WoW and Overwatch. MWO did it too, Sarah's Jenner mech

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

they have the Kanai's Cube in D3 which is named after Kevin Kanai Griffith who died of cancer. https://diablo.wikia.com/wiki/Kevin_Griffith

Riot Games also made a Jax skin (Gladiator?) that has a line "here's for you Kid" that was specifically for a kid too.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They added that line to that Jax skin because it was the kid's favourite skin.

there was also the box in Concordia (BL:TPS) for the make a wish foundation-http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=327465988

Overwatch have a tribute to a fan who died doing something heroic just before launch. I love that map just because of it.

but 6 years later having bought original BL2 when it launched i still have exactly 0 DLC, yet its "free" in new 20$ purchases.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think you get an achievement if you find him, too.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Mamaril*

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

If only they'd give us BL3 though

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

While BL2 is one of my favorite games of all times, let's not forget the astronomical amount of DLC that it needed to have a good end-game.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

At least you did get a full game experience even without them. Isn't that right, EA?

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

David Eddings an in the author?

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I thought that too, but it seems to be a different David Eddings. https://www.imdb.com/name/nm2036528/

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah I was unaware of the author’s sad tragic final year of his life. Burnt half of house, lost his wife, then died himself.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

One of my favorites

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Both companies went to shit though

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Found him once. Never again.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yea bif respect to them

6 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

I always wondered the reasoning behind this character, now I know!

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Bethesda did add an NPC to Fallout 4's Nuka World expansion for a similar reason. Evan.

6 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

I was going to say the exact same thing; thanks.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah but people aren't allowed to appreciate them anymore.

6 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Thats a shame, in ny opinion i love that they have done this in BL2. But the important thing to me, as much as it may seem to 1/2

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The amount of effort involved i still think its a fantastic use of the stage they have created for themsleves :-)

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

In before micro-transactions in Borderlands 3. And didn't they cancel half of the DLC in the pre-sequel's season pass?

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I've been pretty hyped over borderlands 3, but you're probably right about micro transactions. They're just too profitable to ignore.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah TPS season pass was a complete rip off. However for me BL2 is one of the best games ever made.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

TPS in general is a rip off. Lasers were cool, hopefully they shoehorn them in BL3

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

TPS for sure wasn't a fantastic game, but it was alright. It just seemed rushed. I'm sure BL3 will be on par with BL2.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

TPS seemed more like an expansion to BL2 than it was its own game.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I just bought it for $5 on steam

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It’s an amazing game

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Biffie Smalls

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I saw him only twice in my 300 hours of gameplay. And you just made me look David Eddings up, I only knew of the writer. Was really confused

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

He was bugged at launch so he would spawn 100% of the time.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Never seen him once in my 133 hours, didn't know he was actually a thing.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

yea I have probably a couple thousand hours of playtime between onlive, steam, and ps4 and havent seen him

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He rarely spawns in Sanctuary, but when he does, an achievement / trophy will pop up once you talk to him.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hey guys, he has an increased chance to spawn on your first visit to Sanctuary.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Depends where you played it, PC keeps the standard spawn rate, consoles had it high before the city moves for some reason.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have started this game so many times, but never finished it

6 years ago | Likes 50 Dislikes 2

I like playing it while playing youtube videos on another screen. It's a nice and mindless game

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Shame. I've started this game so many times with various characters, beat it, and play again.

6 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

I do not have the aim to play the harder modes. It's unfortunate. I barely have the aim to play anyone other than gage

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I get that. I liked the harder modes to level up the ol murderbot. Never got into multiple player

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Testify

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If you’re on the PS4 I will gladly start a new character and join you.

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Love this kind of comment total kudos

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's a hard game to play alone. Much better with friends.

6 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 0

It helps if you have the mechronacer

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Paint drying is much better with friends.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I feel this. I´m stuck against the WARD3N because I play alone. I can´t get past this mission, I just can´t!

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's doable! Just hard...

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I gave up though. 22 times and I always die from some enemy coming out of fucking nowhere, not worth the rage and stress, really.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That fair. Totally understand that.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've lost count at how many times i've finished this game alone lol.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I actually think the second one is better to play alone. The first one is the better one with friends since the story doesn't get in the>

6 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

way at all. Just "Here's the quest. Go murder the lads. Have fun. Report back for loot and more quests." It let the group make their own fun

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

and humor.

I like B2 alot, but randy pitchfords a piece of shit. Stole segas money for Colonial Marines and spent it on borderlands

6 years ago | Likes 45 Dislikes 5

I am okay with that. Worthwhile sacrifice

They didn't fail spectacularly with battleborn, it was a pretty decent game, just poor timing on release.

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

As someone who loves Borderlands and gave Battleborn and honest go, it was a mess of a game. It wanted to be too many things.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And Duke Nukem was in development hell for so long it didn't matter.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

If I've heard correctly he's no longer on board though, Borderlands 3 is being produced withouthim.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I heard heard the same

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hes the Ceo and the guy teasing it like everyother month. U mean like not on the developmemt team?

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They also ruined the homeworld series.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

How? I remmber they used the rules of the second game for the first, but outside of that there were very very little bugs on the remake

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The remake was RIDDLED with bugs, and the multiplayer was a broken mess for the first several months.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Heck, the game still has the bug where enemy ships wig out and kamikaze their whole fleet.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Didn't notice that, worse bug I found was on the second to last mission of the first game, perhaps I forgot about the others.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's honestly the reason why I refuse to buy any more games from Gearbox. Broken doesn't even begin to describe that game.

6 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 4

broken?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just look up the condition that Colonial Marines launched in. It was barely playable without the day one patch, and not much better with it.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

One issue that I had was that all of my progress in both the campaign and multiplayer would be erased because the game saved to a cache.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So, whenever the cache cleared, my saves were wiped. Everytime an update came out or I took out the disc, I had to start all over.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ahhhh gotcha, thought you meant borderlands was broken

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nah, hardly had any issues with Borderlands, which is what made me so pissed about Colonial Marines. It was obvious they didn't give a shit.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It was apparently broken because of a typo: https://m.ign.com/articles/2018/07/15/modder-fixes-maligned-aliens-colonial-marines-ai-with-one-

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

That's just for the AI. I've personally had all of my progress in the campaign and multiplayer erased because the game saves to a cache.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Not to a HDD, like literally every other game, but to a fucking memory cache. Gearbox fucked up in ways I've never seen before.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I mean, the game's still a buggy piece of shit. But this does fix a massive problem with the xenomorph A.I.
