That'd be ridiculous. What I do is bind people's wrists together in front of their body with a single ziptie in a place where they can really wind up and swing them.
If you're ever tied up like this, the people kidnapping you are too stupid to live. Just tell them the ransom was paid, but they have to make change for the large bill, then remind them to manually breathe.
This is great, but every single time I tie two ends of a short bit of string to a headboard & then tie my own hands together with another little bit of string I've threaded through it, I forget the trick. EVERY SINGLE TIME. Even right now I've been dragging this damn headboard around for days until someone finally posted this clip again.
When mooring a boat to a "bollard" at a dock with several others using the same bollard for their mooring lines I was taught to use this same technique for casting off so you don't have to undo anyone elses' line. I suspect it has been taught that same way for hundreds, if not thousands of years.
I am very new to boating, got a river cruiser last year. Could you tell me more about this or point me in the right direction? As we have to do this quite frequently but people usually just tie their knots over the others
Certainly, when you mention tying knots I suspect you're tying up to a cleat with just the line. This is when you have a "Bpllard", one of the things that look like a cut off telephone pole that you toss a loop over. As you've noticed when you get more than 3 it can get a little messy. Anyway, when you pull up to bollard toss a loop over it but before you leave your boat and are tidying everything up
take the loop off then put it on the bottom next to the ground & fish it up through the middle of everyone elses loops, then put your loop over bollard. That way you haven't trapped anyone, they can remove their loop just like the guy in the video does. If you have any other questions send me a PM, glad to help out. Next summer I'm planning to do a 5-7 day cruise on a 100% solar electric boat which I'm kinda excited about!
Thank you for your detailed reply! It was a bollard I thought you meant - most places have cleats but some of the older mooring spots don't, and as you can tell I'm not 100% on the lingo yet! Most people on the river are very nice & happy to help thankfully.

Escape artists love this one simple trick.

Who ties ppl up like this? Jfc

knot topology, for those of you that think this is magic.
YourBiologicalStepDadUncleRob
Can you imagine seeing this done by 20 different people on TikTok and thinking "You know what people need to see? Me doing this as well".
petpet3d
Is it just me or does that seem super obvious?
AnnaVonOesterreich
For me, it was not obvious watching the video. But trying it with real rope, it feels quite a "natural thing" to do.
Snooj
No one will ever tie anyone up like that, just like the "cord stuck under the table leg" thing.

Not that cool

But, what if I want to see what happens next?

This would come in handy if anyone ever tied people loosely to more rope.

Old magician's trick, like many many decades old
WarlordPipsqueak
As someone who has done some tying in their day, this is almost offensive to my sensibilities
Dracology
Neat but will never be useful to you IRL. nobody is going to bind you like that
TechnicolourFerret
Not for being tied up as a person, but as another commenter mentioned boaters do this with moorings.

We did this as a magic truck for our parents in Cub scouts - back in the late 70s.

What river are you on? I live close to where the Illinois river and the Mississippi river meet, about 40 up from St Louis.

Yep, in the corner it says "based on a novel by stephen king"

Very nice, thanks for sharing š«¶š¼

Or just untie your wrists with that much slack in the bindings.
FrostyLady
I think the slack was purposeful, to better show the technique?
Quixus
Without any slack it would not have worked.
FlavorFinger
Worst double column tie ever!

With that much slack you can go and make yourself a sandwich and cut yourself free once you're done

Mmm bound sandwich.
