What could be more cyber secure than not using computers? /s

OK, I'm just going to say that, in general, and in principle, you can't expect a minister to be an expert in everything they oversee. That's why they're supposed to find experts and listen to their advice. This guy isn't just out of touch with his mandate, he's out of touch with the entire 21st century. He's probably waiting for the latest banger from John Philip Souza to drop.

Kind of like geriatric men who have never been pregnant, and barely know how anything surrounding pregnancy, birth, and the female anatomy actually works, passing laws about abortion and contraception.

The files are inside the computer?

*Confused monkey noises whilst hitting a monitor

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

It’s so simple!

2 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

What did you say to me???

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Reminds me of the old episode of ICarly (I think) where they were trying to find a dead dude’s famous recipe to save a business. The guy said he put it in his computer, after trying to find it to no avail, at the end of the episode, they broke the computer by accident and found it literally on a note inside the computer tower.

Japan almost always has a fairly hard right leaning government in power. Is anyone surprised by this?

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

I love cronyism, it gives us the most qualified people for the job, always… /s

Does he FAX? (asking from Germany)

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

He has probably read a fax, probably has a secretary send them.

Literally can't be any more cyber-secure than by not owning or using any cyber, I guess.

In the same vein: Belgian Minister of Health

she eats all the bad food so you can't. her sacrifice makes Belgium more healthy.

When did Marge Dursley move to Belgium?

'I'm impossible to hack so I'm the best man for the job.'

And then proceeds to give the login info for confidential data due to a phishing email

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

‘But also, what is hacking?’

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well, in all fairness, security through obscurity is a real thing, plus, isn't the joke something like: "most people have a smart home or at least a smart assistant listening to them on every device, meanwhile the only piece of tech owned by my head of IT is a single printer and he keeps a loaded shotgun next to it just in case it makes an unfamiliar noise", something like that? He might be just the man for the job.

2 years ago | Likes 51 Dislikes 1

It's entirely possible that he has one or more smart devices and doesn't know it.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

One doesnt use smart devices cos he knows what they are. One doesn't use smart devices cos he doesn't know how. They are not the same meme.

That maybe used to be true, but there are plenty of it guys that geek out on technology to the other extreme. My buddy has 3 separate networks at his house, 1 for work, 1 for general use, and 1 for IoT. Has implemented all kinds of wild stuff, like he's set up an rfid tag he scans before bed to turn off all lights in the house except in the guest bed and bathroom.

or hes the only fully bought and paid for one that they trust in the position and they dont care if he cant personally do it aslong as it gets done.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

hes their fixer

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

he's the most secure man in the country.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Meanwhile, I cant land a data analysis or office management job having 15 years of experience.

2 years ago | Likes 69 Dislikes 2

You're shooting too low. Go for an executive position. They don't need qualifications.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's really unfortunate. If you'd like, I can look at your resume and maybe see if there are areas you can improve on that would make it more marketable

2 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 0

Have you tried getting born to wealth and privallege?

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Sent you a DM.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

If it helps, the head of IT here didn't own a PC or have internet at home. We ended up paying another company to handle IT after a decade of ours not knowing how to do anything.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Have you considered running for any political office? /s

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not So Fun Fact: Japan actually has a fairly low computer literacy rate for a developed country, and many Japanese corporations are very far behind on IT. This second fact is largely due to conservative practices by entrenched management; paper ledgers and floppy disks are still used in some places because that's what the boss has used since he took office in '85 and it was good enough for him!

Does he know what a jpeg is?

Probaby just wants a picture of a god dang hot dog

Maybe he just wants a picture of a god dang hot dog

As a Japanese, we already fucked up. Our average salary doesn't change for 30 years and nobody complains about it

2 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

As a French, we do need people like you and the Germans to work more. As we work less and enjoy more free time. :-)

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Japan is a good example of what decades of conservative government does. One of the most booming economic countries in the 70s-90s.... Then absolute and complete stagnation of culture and economy for three decades.

Hey, wait a minute. I've seen this one before!

Cybersecurity 101: Can't get hacked if you don't use a computer.

2 years ago | Likes 122 Dislikes 0

Does he use a phone?

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Sure, but it’s got Elmo and Grover on speed dial.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

He is the epitome of cyber security.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not sure why he would have to as it doesn't take special training to know that if you get hacked, you just cut the hardline to the mainframe.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

MF has upper management potential out the wazzo.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He doesn't even know about the series of tubes?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He’s also a political advisor to Pachinko, a series of change stores that specializes in low stakes gambling. They also sometimes serve a purpose in Yakuza money laundering operations. So that makes sense.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

'sometimes'

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Darn clever, those Chinese

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I strongly question the validity of that claim

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Almost like a president who doesnt pay his taxes

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Management is stupid. We know.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Reminds me that Obama was the first president with a cellphone. Bush was tech illiterate. Tramp really just used one app, but I think he had a few burner phones. No idea if grampa Joe has a cellphone or ever learned how to type to be honest. And sidenote: McCain was nearly president and in 2008 he was reading printout pages his staff would give him, he never really used a computer himself.

Japan's cyber security official is so good he's never been hacked.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hacker gets his signature on a form by taping a birthday card to it. "I'm in"

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

the articles are from back in 2018, I wonder if he still has the job?

2 years ago | Likes 49 Dislikes 0

Yes, he now knows what a USB drive is. Also mp3 and PDF.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As of May 1, 2023, he is still the minister of Cybersecurity.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

na he was shown the door showrtly after

2 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 2

My god, he had to be shown what a door is??

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Hopefully those who appointed him were also shown the door shortly after.

2 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

the president or prime minister? doubt it

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 8

The president... of Japan?

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Shinzo Abe? Famously got assassinated on the streets during a campaign speech.

2 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 1

Abe was assassinated in July 2022, about 500m from my home. I don’t see the relevance to Abe in this discussion.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

.... Abe appointed him.
