companies pay for features all the time.

Companies do pay to implement stuff all the time, but one of the really neat tricks of commercial FOSS has been being able to convince unpaid labour that they're somehow not unpaid labour in a for-profit system...

Because it’s not really accurate?

that's a take, i suppose. It wasn't meant to be, either, I think that counts for something.. But it's also only as good as what people contribute? which has been nice so far?

linux is an operating system, the dev base individuals who show up the most in manpages are the union...my contrib

Because it's reqlly more of an ornate hobby that user indulge in more for it's own sake than using their computers as tools.

Not that I like the large corporations controlling OS's, but Linux is not a labour union nor have I found it a useful solution versus how much time and maintenance it requires.

What watermark... You saw no watermark... [Honestly think everyone I work with has been good on actually activating stuff. But my head of IT is 'a tad intense' about licenses and account access. He is also German, and hilariously so in that special way only some Germans who acknowledge it can be...]

Hahah! Hilarious. For some licenses and programs I probably would agree with your German boss.

It’s funnier because I helped build an interface for a program for “you know who” that would check all copies of all those products on a company’s networked computers to confirm compliance.

Not sure if they ever did anything with the data but I do find it funny
