I hope you smile or crack a mental smirk today, from this or an unrelated thing - even if only a brief moment.
Cheers!!

"I really liked the show today!"
"Well, you also liked the war.."
ElbowDeepInUserSub
I get no respect!
unluckyandbored
"Hey we know your problem. You're too close to the front of the stage. Back up!" "Like this?" "Farther!" "How's this?" "Keep going.." "How far back do you two want me to go?" "You got a car?"
PotOfJam
I would pay money to see these two heckle Jimmy Carr.

NorrinxRadd
He has a book, it's definitely one of the books a library has
TheBlueMuppet
Love these guys.
Bollramm
"You're standing too close to the audience."
"This better?"
"A bit more."
"How far back do you want me to go?"
"Do you have a car?"
CleverSquirrel
I had a friend who, for her wedding reception, hired a pair of puppeteers with Statler and Waldorf puppets to heckle the wedding party

That was great, thanks for the context!
ThatQuietlySmirking
I really want the Muppets to host the Oscars, just so those two can hang out and heckle the celebs.
psmith00
i love those guys, all three of them.

YOU FIRST
fantastic

I remember that episode!

Yeah, see, these new guys, they don't cut it. These days they're just a one line do-ho-ho-ho interstitial, and it pains me to see how the mighty have fallen.
Pizzeption
I really wish I could have appreciated these two more as a child, but I'm so happy to realize their charm as an adult.
Soboredwithlife
The Muppet Show was an adult show.
Quessir
Henson was initially so keen to get rid of the "puppets are for kids" trope that he initially titled it The Muppet Show - Sex & Violence.
theinternetkeepsmealive
How old are those guys??

Being those characters' puppeteers must be the best jobs on earth.
jimd1954
They were puppets?
MadamPuddifoot
Kinda like when Martin Short does Ed Grimley
abrubtopinion
"Surely the original performers were Henson and Oz" I thought to myself; Turns out Henson and Hunt/Nelson.
TheLordFoxington
My husband and I have considered doing a cosplay of those two where we carry a lightweight booth around conventions and (good-naturedly) roast/heckle people.
Neednoggle
That's an excellent idea!
Quessir
Jim Henson and Richard Hunt.
JustHereForTheCrumbs
The trump administration would put Statler and Waldorf out of business.
theshinobi23
They put Sesame Street out of business, so that stands to reason.
Chilichunks
They did not, Sesame Street will be airing new episodes on Netflix and PBS.
theshinobi23
I had heard that Netflix picked them up, but if it's anything like the HBO version, it'll be half-length episodes with about a third of it being dominated by Elmo's World. The fact is, however, that Fuhrer Bonespurs's first term saw Sesame Street booted from PBS and HBO saw the chance for an easy nostalgia profit, so they saved it, chopped it in half, and pushed Elmo hard because he's the most profitable character. It's the same as losing your job and going to another company in the same field.
Magnar1183
At least it's still around

"How come we got this half?"
clintbacca
Is that JK Simmons ? What is this ? I'm intrigued. Intriggggued.
bippityboppitybuttsex
It is, playing Milton Berle and Milton Berle's dick.
DeepThought42
Yea Uncle Miltie flexing in front of Chevy chase. Movie /‘Saturday Night’
Leithreas
From the SNL movie I believe.
requiemforameme
The Berle scenes alone make that movie worth it!
darkwingduckInaMiniSkirt
there's an SNL movie?
FelonyRaptor
It's called Saturday Night, it's about the cast, crew and producers getting ready for the first aired live show of SNL. Came out last year, it's pretty good. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saturday_Night_(2024_film)

Ooo, neato!
rolliefingers
Wow that was actually pretty sharp writing. I always just found them annoying, but now... now I'm wondering if I underestimated the guy operating their mouths through their goatse holes.
L1ttl3J1m
Once Disney bowdlerised them, *they got turned into*...the "D'Oh-ho-ho-ho" cardboard cutouts, etc. - more evidence -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hBbCarNpaDk
L1ttl3J1m
Classic Muppets was a whole 'nother level. Once Disney bowdlerised them, the "D'Oh-ho-ho-ho" cardboard cutouts you remember from more recently. I found this just now, and you can actually see the difference. It hits right around about the 2:18 mark, just after the last of the D'Oh-ho-ho-ho-ho-hoes. -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=14TiYo2r0wo
rolliefingers
Aright well fuck me I guess. I thought those muppets were pretty funny in this.
Aspernari
We thought they were too. You, on the other hand... Definitely not.
ClownishAntics
I'm guessing those downvotes are from people who'd only seen the older stuff, and not the boring crap they turned into.
Aspernari
No, the downvotes are from people who see no reason why they had to go full cringe with "goatse holes" and shit. Especially since the puppeteers' performances have nothing to do with the script in the first place.
ClownishAntics
I'd wager it's a 50/50
