Back in 2008 I was building DVRs for the Subways I worked for. With a 1TB storage drive, we could store ~8 cameras at 480 12fps - decent for the time - for six months of motion-triggered recording. We could read the denominations of cash from the cameras directly over the register. Banks could absolutely do better than they do if they spend more than the absolute minimum.

#1 So there's a reason for this. Higher resolution uses more data storage space, and these cameras are likely running 24/7. Can you imagine how much space you'd need for a month's worth of HiDef video?

Ana that's just one, multiply by 3-4 which they usually have at any bank and add the hassle of being required to store it for x years somewhere safe, required network to transfer that data, times the number of banks/offices and you end up with ridiculous numbers for even small companies. Plus the camera does its function regardless of data quality, deterrent to commit a crime in the case you might be recorded

"You must keep this video footage forever." - no law, whatsoever. My state has no laws about minimums or maximums. Looks like the best I can find is a max of 15 days (hardware limit) to 1 year (certain regulated stuff like banks), but even that seems to be opt-in.

I appreciate that. Honestly, the community has done a lot for my mental wellbeing as well. My husband and I opened the server hoping to find some random people we could play online games with. We moved to a new city where we know absolutely nobody, and my god, it is so hard to make new friends when you are in your 30s with a kid. The community gives us something to look forward to each evening. I love chatting, gaming, and watching movies with you all. It helps us not feel so alone.

I promise you, I am not generating more money than I've spent on the community and community events (especially Extra-Life). I don't understand why it angers you that I use my last 4-5 photos (out of a collective 50) to redirect people to what makes me (and a handful of other people) happy. Most other "dumpers" don't even utilize the full 50 slot availability. I still spend a shit ton of time gathering the memes I supply, and I don't source from the server or Imgur for those images.
