Commenting mostly to see if someone comes back with some evidence because I'm skeptical highly skeptical. Organized crime always wants cops out of their shit, and sometimes that expands to keeping them out of a given community/space. On the other side there's authorities labeling any group they didn't like a criminal organization as an excuse to bust them. I just feel like the Black Panthers to Bloods line isn't going to be a solid, straight one.

You potentially have this backwards. The original US police forces mostly evolved out of slave-catching militias. "Gangs" are far too broad of a term to be something that originally started in the US at a very specific time in place with a specific rose-tinted view of their mission statement. You will probably find a lot of links to historical black resistance groups like Black Panthers and the modern black gangs but it's going to be very messy and inconsistent

Black Panthers wasn't the original or only gang/organization but one of the most prominent and unlike crips and bloods wasn't a primarily local group which is what lead to the rivalry that we see today due to violence and other circumstances.
