OMG. I just had my Linux skills exam yesterday. Got 100%. Guess you could say I'm kind of a nerd.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

What do you get asked in a linux skills exam? I'd probably answer every question with man .

I keep seeing these posts and I always wonder, Am I the only one who can't sleep unless I am thinking about something?

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Thinking about something is what prevents me from sleeping.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I plan out my meshes and textures in advance make em the next day, do my best thinking at 4am half asleep or in the bathroom

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I constantly use my imagination and play scenarios in my head in order to sleep.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I kinda do the same. I drift off easier letting my mind wander.

I've been driving myself crazy, trying to install Signal on my Chromebook. Never worked with Linux before now.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I keep trying it every few years when people say its more accessible now and a great alternative to windows gaming... they are liars.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

If that's what you think, you're either having hardware issues or Linux just isn't for you.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Trying to get hardware for flight sims to work with linux sucks.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Being wrong for a specific subsection of gaming does not make one a liar.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You generally don't expect randomest stuff to just not work with windows.

I have no idea what this means, but I gave it an upvote anyway, because I'm sure it's important to someone somewhere.

Some say sudo is short for Super User Do and it’s used in Linux commands but I’m not a big big nerd so...couldn’t tell ya

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

'Sudo' is computer for 'Simon Says'.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I feel like you made a joke about granting sudo permissions to unknown programs and it flew over everyone's head :<

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I really didn't, but if that's why people are upvoting, then I'll pretend I did.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Root on Linux is superuser admin account. Running a command as sudo runs it as root.If an account tries to run a command with sudo that 1/2

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Isn't allowed in sudoers file they get that message saying it's not allowed and it gets logged in secure or auth.log depending on distro.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

'sudo' is short for 'superuser do'. Basically like telling your machine "i'm the admin, please do this thing"

2 years ago | Likes 109 Dislikes 1

Simon says....

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've been told it's actually Super User Do Once. You could get elevated permission with su or stay safe and use sudo

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

"look at me, I am the admin now"

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Used to use a client on GTAV online to piss off the griefers. The sudo function was by far my favorite because they got all the blame.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

every time i see the word Sudo, it makes me think of the strike in tae kwon do typically called sudo (maybe spelled differently since I 1/

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

don't speak korean) but it's performed by striking with the outside edge muscles of your hand in a "karate chop" style hit. Then I think 2/

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

of this, then I think of someone beating the hell out of there computer and always get a small chuckle

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And then getting an error saying you aren't the admin, and then writing the incident down in a location advanced linux users know about :/

Lol, there really is an XKCD for everything.

2 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

impressive isn't it? (that there is a XKCD for everything)

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

my favorite is the tv tropes one... which tv tropes used as the page image for the tv tropes will ruin your life page.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm pretty sure this joke is a reference to that comic

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It also doesn’t make sense because you would think, then, it would be susa Super User SAYS. Instead it implies the computer is the superuser

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Not exactly as when you sudo, the one doing the action is the superuser of the computer (or the computer itself arguably)

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

But...but I thought I was the super user :(

It's a programming thing. Ignorance is bliss

C\ run wut?

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

More a Linux thing, but most Linux users are programmers, so it kinda is by proxy.

I'd never really used much Linux stuff and a friend had asked me to install emulators on his steamdeck. Lessons were learned.

I like the more brutish command c:/gpudate -force

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

gpupdate is about as much brutish as my dead grandmother. It is also most definitely not on the disk root.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

yes of course it's usually run in the user to which you find yourself after running the cmd command

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm just being pedantic because you missed a > to show the shell runs in that directory ;)

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's quite good. Because i've just started studying IT so i'm bound to not rememver everything i've been taught.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0
