Not just that.
On May 23, President Trump signed an executive order he’s calling a “restoration of gold standard science.” But don’t be fooled, this is not about scientific integrity. It’s about political control.
The order gives Trump’s political appointees sweeping power over federal science. They can now:
- Vet and approve all scientific research
- “Correct” scientific findings that don’t align with the administration’s views
- Control public communication of scientific data
- Discipline federal scientists who speak out or deviate from the party line
This is not a restoration, it’s a hostile takeover. Scientific independence has always been a cornerstone of public trust, policy, and progress. This order destroys that. Agency heads have just 30 days to comply.
Silencing scientists doesn’t make the facts go away. It just makes the US less safe, less informed, and less free.

It will be a massive shift for a lot of different areas of science, technology, and industrial development to other countries.
