how to diy?

we peeled up all the linoleum in our half bath tonight only to find that under this layer of glue or plaster is the same tile floor as our back hall. does anyone know if I'd be better using a chemical stripper or if a heat gun might work on this?

Be careful with the backing of old linoleum and glue . It can be full if asbestos . Older ones are more suspect. It also might not have any. I always take a sample to the local lab just to make sure.

Looks to be a filler on top of the tile to smooth it out for the installation of the linoleum. Probably neither a heat gun or chemical will remove if it is cementous. Probably have to chip it off.

If it is glue you are looking to remove, heat gun might be cleaner. Might have to try both to see what works best for your situation. I would start off with the heat gun and see how that works and if it’s really difficult move to a chemical stripper.

I put some gel stripper down an hour ago and it's coming up a bit, will try heat gun tomorrow

* given it’s not full of asbestos

on the plus side, it's a very small area, whole room is maybe 4x8 with a good part of that taken up by a cabinet with sink and toilet, so it's maybe 15-20 sq foot of linoleum and gunk
