So, you hold it down, fart in it's face and back off.
It that chicken specific?

Maybe the chicken just needs a reason to chill.

Why does that work? Any chicken experts here?

Chicken wing expert here. When dealing with your standard hot wing this technique is superfluous as the wing is usually very docile. At least when I've dealt with the buffalo varietals that has been my experience.

The chicken thinks the line is a snake or something similar. It triggers a defense mechanism called tonic immobility. The chicken goes limp because it realized it's within killing distance of a predator and can no longer flee safely. The best chance for survival now is to play dead in hopes that the predator will loose interest. The idea behind this is that many predators are hesitant to eat already dead animals due to potential disease.

Pretty much what I found last time this was posted, also, that chicken can't move, and is stressed out and terrified, so doing this for funsies is a bit of a dick move.

Weakling, I don't need a line or a chicken to convince myself I'm going to die and go into a catatonic state.

Your idea was okay until that part about a predators hesitant to eat already dead animals. Instead I subscribe to a possible biology and evolutionary ideology, where the animals that froze/hypnotized likely survived predators due to stealth. Then the survivors passed their genes for freezing/hypnosis along to the next generation.
