He can’t actually dismantle it as Congress would have to do it, but he will make it significantly harder for people using FAFSA, payback loans, those who are title 1 schools to get funds, etc.

I teach high schoolers. Many are going to be so fucked and they don’t realize it yet.

I’m just tired as a teacher some days. I can go on and on and sound like I’m whining. This will be a loss to my kids.

FP edit: wait, I made FP with only 55 points?

No matter how they do it, they always find a way to abuse children.

‘War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength.’

So... He has it backwards, let's see which one will be next... 🙄😶

Of couse, if there is anything Republicans hate it’s education

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

He's following the fascist playbook, they all do this, this is how they become dictators, the other way is through force, when you don't use force, you do this. Good luck America.

I was watching a Ted talk animated yesterday about the rise of hate based on a trial for hitler’s minions. One is to destroy and remake education.

5 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

He should sign an executive order to dismantle his existence. Tell him it's a contract for free hamburdlers and covfefe and he'll do it.

Sorry, education is for the rich. So your tax dollars will get used for charter schools while your kids will get to learn essentials like "coal mining"

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I love how he called it giving education back or something bullshit like that. If a Republican is gonna fuck you hard, you'd better believe the legislation will have a name completely opposite to what it'll do.

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Keep them dumb, religiously loyal, and so deep in debt that they wont be able to protest

5 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

This will destroy red states education. Red states require federal money to function.

5 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

They want them dumber, working or married - young

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Like to remind everyone that all those states rolling back child labor laws love this.

5 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

He has no authority to dismantle the Dept of Ed, it was created by Congress. Let's see if there are any backbones in Congress to stand against this crappy order.

I'm afraid whether or not we're going to have any doctors in this country in 15 years.

Another step closer to privatizing education.

Rump has kids watching this. He probably can't find a friendly set of listeners that are from a family tree with no branches,

Every morning I wake up and wonder how he actively made us a worse country. I don’t know if we’ll ever get rid of this stain on our history.

5 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I mean, for the sake of argument, you guys downplayed a seven century long genocide literally 100x worse than the holocaust, and now nobody cares, even most of the rest of us. The victims. You guys'll be FINE. /s

...no but seriously, you guys should never live this down. Hopefully it compels your nation to, for the first time in its history, live up to its ideals.

Should take more than a EO

Let’s hope that it screws up the loan payback process so much that people’s loans get relieved.

5 months ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

The loans will just be sold to some private company.

5 months ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

They already are handled by a “loan servicer”.

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Student loans right now are owned by the US gov. The servicer gets a % of the monthly payment in order to be the goto for the loan, same as mortgages. Eg Fanny Mae / Freddie Mac “own” most mortgages, but the loan initiator can remain the servicer / entity that is contacted for support / payment processing. It’s a way to secure funding for loans but maintain a “high*” level of customer service. *Terms and conditions apply, level of service not guaranteed.

Then we can default

5 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Na. They’ll keep that provision to sweeten the pot - it’s been so long since I’ve had a private loan I honestly can’t remember if the no default bs was in the note or not but I’d bet money it was.

This idiot and his sycophants want to leave education up to the individual States. Can you imagine some of our ass backwards States who would teach Christianity, not say a word about evolution, would try to erase more history, etc.? America needs a basic uniform education system so as not to dumb down even more. One only has to look at MAGA to know I’ve got a point.

College entrance exams are going to get a lot more interesting

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The school curriculum is already set by the states. It's why Texas was able to print textbooks that called slaves "unpaid workers." It also explains the vast education rankings between blue and red states. The DOE is in charge of Grants and enforcing things like Title IX.

5 months ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Not only does America need a basic uniform education system, but a system designed entirely around scientific, objectively true material that is guaranteed against Christofascist/conservative/Nazi meddling.

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

More than a point. Half my family would consider that an improvement even though *they* received a decent college education and lived in the generation where that actually got them a leg up. They don't understand why I call them hypocrites and it infuriates me.

The poor educated are going to love this because they are going to have more poorly educated to join the force...

Kentucky is about to get SO MUCH stupider.

Imagine trying to get into Harvard with a Mississippi public education a decade from now.

As long as the kids parents are rich, they don't care.

FL is only saved because UF is a massive research institution... Although I guess that doesn't fucking matter anymore, either...

Most people buy their way into Harvard…

They want to leave it up to the states, until some start doing it in a way they don't like then they'll try to make it a national thing again. You know, like abortion and birth control. First it was a states right thing until they got rid of universal access, then it wasn't when they want a universal ban.

5 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Arizona weighing in here. We are so fucked.

5 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

If this went into place, imagine 25 years from now the wealth disparity of red vs blue states. The blue states will surpass the red states earning power and the new lie will be that the blue states are taking all of the jobs away from the red states. It’s going to create even more classism and that is the BEST possible outcome.

5 months ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Nah, rich fuckers are going to push for private schools and shit all over. Slowly convince the gullible it's better. And in 25 years, most of the kids are talking like we are in Idiocracy while the well off get a good education and perpetually inherit good jobs and positions by merit of not being one of the poors.

5 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Curriculum has always been up to the states though. Actually, up to the local government the district serves.

The DOE was basically there to make sure poor areas, people with disabilities, or other special classes were t at a disadvantage when receiving their public education.

The laws surrounding the DOE specifically do not allow it to write curriculum or refuse to fund based on curriculum taught.

This is a quote from Tupac’s aunt, Assata Shakur, in her memoir “Assata” it’s a pretty good read

5 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Well, democratic governments should never be overthrown so dial down this 'both sides' nonsense.

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

The inference is yours. Cheers.

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Democracy sounds like a good idea, when can we do that??

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

ykwim??

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Look man. Clearly these fucking nazis know how to undermine a democracy. It's been happening for atleast 30 years.

So arguably, once we've finished purging the bastards, once they're nothing but a footnote in history, every shred of their tactics needs to be destroyed. Teaching people about them as a means of prevention will encourage people to try.

We can never allow that, on the off chance they succeed again.
