I finally did it.

This isn't something I can really share with people in my line of employment, but it took a solid year of super hard work, so I wanted to tell someone. It'd be nice if losing milligrams and micrograms showed like losing pounds. Emotionally, I'm on top of the world. Physically, I still feel like garbage. Restless, tense, irritable, slightly sweaty garbage. The freedom is worth it.

No judgment on those who take pain meds to get by. I've been there. Never stop looking for a better quality of life, whatever that means for you.

I wish my Dad was alive to see this. I started this process before he died unexpectedly last Thanksgiving, and he was all for it. He was a bit of a conspiracy theorist when it came to Big Pharma getting people addicted to drugs in order to ensure revenue. Not so sure about that part, though I wouldn't put it past them. In any case, they won't make another dime off me. At least not for this.

RIP, Dad. I know you're in heaven, blissfully unaware of our suffering here in the world, but I did it. I freaking knocked the bastard out of the park.

Shitty part about the Big Pharma and addiction thing your dad thought? Well...turns out he's kind of right; google the 'Sackler Family'.

weight lifting can increase your tolerance to pain. not sure if you're able to weight lift though.

I won my fight with pain meds 4 years ago. I know how bad it was getting off, so great job! It gets easier to let go every day from here.

As someone currently on pain meds, it is harder to get off of them, then taking them. The withdrawals are horrible!

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Lost a lot of friends in the battle against opiates @OP, happy to see you've come out the other side

6 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 1

How do you deal with pain nowadays?

6 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Make the switch to sweet, healthy Whiskey.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

It's been a year and a half for me and it's gotten much harder, which I wasn't expecting. I don't have cravings but the pain is worse

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Okay but what did you do about the pain? I never got addicted, but I never stopped hurting.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

try cannabis

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

For me taking pretty large daily doses for chronic pain. I went from barely functioning to living almost normally when I STARTED them.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I feel so trapped on methadone. 450 a month and i swear they make it as hard as possible to get off. Its really killing me

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I quit cold turkey after 6 years.i was doing a blind taper but was taking 4 ever!

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Man. Methadone is probably the worst thing to ever take too, I think heroin isn't as bad as that. Keep fighting tho you can/will quit 1 day.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Try kratom or low dose subs

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Just want to throw out there, Rochester's and Purdues CEO was literally just indicted for doing exactly that. Charged with drug trafficking.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No judgement for chronic pain managers, but it is difficult to see loved ones constantly zonked out from painkillers. So good job! +1

I'm so grateful I dont get loopy on my pain meds. Because since I started them its like I can be a person again. C.pain is life stealing

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Congrats! Good job OP

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I suffer with chronic pain, but I’m so worried about drugs taking over i just use Motrin and suffer at times. Bless you

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

hell yeah, OP!

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Good luck friend, dont look back.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I feel you. Coming off daily doses of morphine was hard, but worth it. Was on for 10+ years - been off for 2. Keep up the hard work!

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Good job, man! I had to take them for eight years too and I can’t believe how much clearer my head feels. Memory is spotty but, fair trade.

I took my last narcotic on 3 Jan, 2015. The first couple months were the hardest. The constant pain sucks, still, but at least I can 1/

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Function, & have a steady job, & can concentrate (sorta) to do my schoolwork. My new doc suggested them for a sprained back, & i almost 2/

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Went for it. But I instead told her about my narcotics addiction, MADE her put that in my chart, & stuck w/ Advil & light muscle relaxers.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Enjoy your new life. Great news.

6 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 1

At least you dad passed away knowing you were on the right path! And you honored his legacy by sticking through it all. Congrats @OP!

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

What drug?

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

@op, you are amazing. Take a bow!!! Too many people get in too deep before they realize it..then it's too late! Stay strong! PM me !

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Congratulations, I know it's hard work. If you're like me it will be a bit before the "garbage" feeling goes away. Working out in the gym 1/

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Helped me feel better (less shaky) & I got physically fit. Either way you should feel proud of yourself Op. 2/2

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You’ve done an amazing job. It takes time for your body to adjust. Low intensity stretching, hydrate, and breathing exercises daily

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Cannabis is an option as well.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Lets not replace one with another now.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What did you do about the pain? I never got addicted, but I never stopped hurting.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Big congrats OP. Wife did the same 3 years ago with the help of Kratom. Doing it on your own way more impressive. Keep driving forward!

6 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Congrats to the wife

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's how I quit opioids, 8 years using for chronic pain. Kratom allowed me to ween & stay off. Made withdrawals more bearable. 6 yrs free.

6 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

What's kratom?

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

A tree that has similar opioid antagonist alkaloids in its leaves. It works wonders

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

first time i've seen someone mention the stuff on imgur. seems to have helped a lot of people so far.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Hope you stocked up on imodium.... that was the worst part for me.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Rip sleep. At least for me anyway I took hydrocodone and 100 mc fentanyl for ten yrs. Getting off was horrible. Sleeping what's that

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Fuck yeah! Been there, done that... you have my admiration and support!

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I quit cold turkey 2 years ago after 4 back surgeries. I was an awful, sweaty, angry mess for a month, but it's worth it. I'm proud of you

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Congratulations! Big step toward joy. So happy for you.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

FYI if you've been on that much for that long it will take a LONG time for your brain chemistry to get normal again. Don't be surprised by

6 years ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 0

Also... stay near bathrooms for a while. That is also gonna take some time to "get back to normal"

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

a lot of ups and downs mentally. You've gotten through the acute withdrawal stages but the lingering ones last longer.

6 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

AF...my sister, 3yrs clean..just recently started to feel "normal"

6 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

I just started feeling normal after 2+ years.

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I stopped 5 years ago with help. Anyone who has never been through the grip pills can have over you will never understand the difficulty.

6 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 1

We did a 100-day 1% titration taper for my wife getting off morphine. Worked well, but still tough...

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I don't think I'd ever be able to stop. I started masturbating at ten and haven't stopped since :(

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Crazy thing is I was in far less pain without the pills then when taking. I feel the pills mentally created pain so I would keep taking.

6 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

I forget the exact terminology but yeah, its essentially true - it was one of the things my doctor listed that comes with being on em ages.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

After years they make you hyper sensitive to it is what I took from it, any pain you are experiencing is likely worse than it really is.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is actually accurate.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I told my mom they were doing this to her. Her surgeon had her on them for 11 years... 60 pills a week!
