Reminds me of when a bat died in my old apartment buildings in the halls, but I couldn't figure out where the body was to toss it. Turns out it crawled behind an old paint can that was left there. I did find the skeleton, months after it stopped stinking.
Former HVAC guy here, I've seen some VERY expensive rodent damage. I had one case in particular where a single rat managed to destroy a heat pump's compressor. $1500 repair.
My neighbors had a bunch of chipmunks find a way through a foundation crack to live between the walls, by the time it was discovered it cost more than $100,000 to repair everything
Fun fact, a lot of fiber optic casing and protective sleeving are made from plant materials, squirrels especially love chewing on them and causing outages
Critters like this are ruining my life. Squirrels are destroying my house. Something else is destroying my car. I've tried everything to stop them. They just keep coming.
My mom called me because the kitchen breaker had tripped and kept tripping. I pulled the fridge away from the wall and discovered this. Warning: Centipede gore.
At my old job, we had a dead rat in the vents. HVAC guy said it was basically unreachable, and we just had to wait for it to dry out and stop stinking. That was a very unpleasant time, punctuated by a plague of flies a couple of weeks later.
My first job was at a movie theater. One other teenager that worked there I swear to god never even laid eyes on a stick of deodorant. Or bathed. Or washed his clothes. At the end of our shifts we'd leave our vests hanging in the break room. He'd stick his with everyone else's like he didn't stink like an unholy combination of an armpit that had its own asshole. We'd always move his to the end of the rack and slide all the others as far away as possible. One day we decided to spray his vest 1/
If they can get their skulls through, they can squeeze the rest of the body in. Personal experience. Had to evict a live chipmunk from a decorative electric heater. On the under side there was a metal plate with 1/4 inches, about 7mm space between it and the bottom of the unit. 'Munk's body was squoooze into that space. We knew it was under it, was tipping it side to side to grab it with a towel. No 'Munk. Lifted it up. No 'Munk. Had to turn it upside down to find 'Munk.
The opening where the main wires come in/go out is plenty big enough; people constantly underestimate just how little room some animals need to squeeze themselves through.

Just install a new fiber optics node. This node is not yours anymore.

Fr, just let the lil guy have the box. He looks so scared, just trying to live his life and make a home for himself.

Huh. As an Australian, I was expecting a massive spider. I've had that a few times.

Those leafs and other bits aren't there by accident, that's a little nest there. Little guy's probably trying to stay warm for the winter.

Wall mouse is the worst; the only way you know it's there is when the scent of death pervades your entire existence.

I do pest control and fucking hate the smell of a dead rat.
OhIfIMust
Someone tried putting dryer sheets over the vents to mask the smell, and it just somehow made it even more unbearable.

"If his skull can fit the rest can squeeze" is a pretty common estimation tool.
