I have a large water bottle with a small opening at the top I use at work. We have pebble ice and have to scoop it in. Whenever I do, I make a huge mess because ice gets everywhere. I over engineered a funnel to make the process easier and cleaner

Or just cut the top off a vitamin bottle next time

The point was to overengineer it with the tools I have access too. :)

Remember most 3D printed stuff are not food safe

Was considered. Should only be used for Ice. Printed in ABS and should hold up for a while...

The problem is not erosion as much as microchanneling between layers is difficult to keep clean of bacteria and (if moist) fungi.

So not really any different to the score marks in a chopping board then. Just wash it.

An easy fix to remedy is just giving it a quick coat of resin to smooth it out.

This is true. If it does start to get gross or smell, I can always print another. ??

not an expert, but this seems pretty safe - not heavily washed or exposed to extreme heat. any other considerations?

3D printed objects are porous and have lots of ridges from the layering which is perfect for mold to grow in, also it can have tiny pieces 1

I believe calling it porous is an exaggeration but otherwise I 100% agree.

which break off into the food, though with all the microplastic we already consume it probably doesn't make a difference.

Can't you just coat it with something?

You could coat it with some resin to then make it "Food safe".
