THAT is what a geyser looks like? I really expected to be able to stand on top of it while it erupts like Looney Tunes taught me. That just looks like the Earth farted in a bathtub.
Foss (rhymes with boss) is one of the words that English just needs to steal. It means waterfall, which is clunky and you have to do weird shit like talk about "the falls" when you're talking about them in plural. A foss, the foss, several fosses.
Iceland is one of those rare places in the world I've visited where everything was basically exactly as I imagined it would be, the landscape was so tortured and rugged that its almost like being on another planet in places but dotted everywhere around are bits of wonder and beauty like something right out of a fairytale.
It has little bits and pieces of other places I’ve seen. But nothing is quite like it. Everywhere you turn there’s another waterfall/foss or something else that just takes your breath away.
Once you’ve been there you immediately recognize it in movies and tv shows because nothing else is quite exactly like Iceland. It’s so unique and incredible.
If you're going counter clockwise on the ring road, Reynisdrangar is probably the closest spot to you for seeing puffins. Tons of them on the cliffs of the basalt columns.
Golden Circle, staring in Hella for a few days while exploring the south coast then to Reykjavik for a few days and home. I didn’t have the time to do a full ring road circle but would love to some day.
If you have extra time when you’re staying in Hella I would highly recommend going to the Westman Islands. And Skogafoss if you aren’t already planning to make that drive. But you really can’t go wrong anywhere you go!
#4 it is worth noting that this is the geyser is called Strokkur. It is active, impressive, and erupts frequently. Personally I was more impressed by it than I was by Old Faithful. It is located at the Haukadular geothermal field. This geyser is about 50 meters from another geyser that is named “Geysir”, which is where the term originates. Geysir is supposedly spectacular, but erupts so infrequently these days that it could be newsworthy when it does.
Haha, it’s a common mistake, and like it’s the eponymous geyser. Being so close together its splitting hairs, but neat to know there are several in the same areas.

Good to see they've got a warning stick with red triangle, safety first.

I'm sure it's all perfectly safe. But. Being near an explosive upwelling of boiling water gives me the NOPES.

Gulfoss is awesome to experience. That wind… absolutely insane.
pvtsquirel
Did master Piandao make you paint it?

Oh, turns out I've watched the last airbender too many times, this is actually the exact location that scene was based on lol

Any puffins?
lightfoot2
Puffin chucking is actually kind of neat.

Haven’t seen any yet other than souvenirs. Lots of Icelandic horses and sheep roaming around. Also a ton of foals out with their mom’s in the fields.

Are you going all the way around the coast? If you pass by it I strongly recommend the walk into Stuðlagil

#1 I saw a giant naked dude with black eyes drink something and dissolve into the water there one time.

Same.

"It is active, impressive, and erupts frequently." Isn't that what every woman wants?.....

Thank you. For the clarification. The girlfriend has been here 6 times and was telling me this was Geyser so I rolled with it
