I wonder how many of us feel the same way

There were many in 1930's Germany who saw what was going on and quite worried as Hitler's administration became progressively more oppressive -- taking away rights, demonizing targeted enemies, and taking the nation into wars the people didn't want... and there was little they could do about it. How did they sleep at night?

The speed at which the current US administration (2025) has eroded democracy and brought forth fascism is startlingly fast. It means that the Republican Party was long poised for a time like this, waiting for just the right person to lead them. THAT is what is even more chilling. I think back on 2017 when Republicans took office. How TFG (felon guy) could use his profusely lying and intimidating bravado to steam roll over those around him that wouldn't bend the knee or might give him thoughtful constructive criticism... And how he could bounce back after all of the pending litigation against him with one glaring felony conviction on 34 counts for FRAUD... that really gave the party license to take a wrecking ball to democracy.

Not every night is sleepless. But enough of them are... and I'm both mad and horrified at what's going on. The opportunity to stem this alarming progression of fascism is growing more narrow with each passing day.

Democracy in the US is already dead. Senate almost unanimously sucked off Charlie Kirk. You had no chance of retaking the Senate as it was. No Senate means no getting rid of Trump until he dies.

They did exactly what we are doing, we always have. That’s not meant to be a criticism, it’s just human nature. They also complained, wrote letters, attended rallies and protests etc. There were pockets of Germany that took a long time to be convinced into nationalism (eventually nazism) because Germany was a relatively new country. Nazis didn’t succeed right away and they were always vulnerable to infighting and coups. The silver lining is that this is temporary even if it doesn’t feel like it

Unfortunately quite a lot of angry, stupid racists seem perfectly fine with this all because it gives them an excuse to be cunts in the open and be accepted by fellow cunts.

It’s called Ambien. My health would be ruined if I couldn’t fall asleep.
Waking up to it is bad enough.

because if you do not sleep, critical reasoning degrades.

Yep, and just like that, you get dominant political parties.
