If someone has muted me, why do I need to see their post?

Like, some pretty basic serial-posting accounts appear to have muted me, which is fine, but I spent some time on a recent post in user sub that featured the Castillo de San Marcos, which is a pretty cool fort, making an informative addition to the conversation, and I submit the comment, it appears to have posted. Then, if I refresh the page, my comment's gone. I don't think that I have the right to be heard on someone else's post, and anyone is free to mute me, but this UX is pretty frustrating, @MartynMage. If I can't comment on someone's post, either hide the post or don't let me comment.

As soon as I notice someone has muted me - I drop them in the bucket.

If you block the user, you won't see their posts, I think.

(But I share your frustration - some people mute at the slightest hint of criticism in a comment. It took me a while to figure out why I wasn't able to comment on the posts of a fairly active poster. I think make it automatically not visible isn't quite right either - so the option exists for a mutual block.)

Boggles my mind that muting someone still doesn't stop you from seeing their posts or comments. Seriously, there's zero logic to it beyond artificially propping up engagement while pissing off your userbase. Meanwhile, on Bluesky, we can actually curate our content.

Dude this happens to me constantly. And it's always somebody I don't remember even interacting with.

This is actually something we’re changing this week :) I’ll have a post with more info in the coming days once it’s out

This is actually great news. Kinda defeats the purpose of blocking someone when you can still see their comments.

Eh, I usually mute people because I don't want their posts in the feed, it's nothing personal and I don't care if they comment on my posts. Just don't want to see a tonne of pony porn or vintage cars or whatever when I'm browsing.

Sometimes it IS personal though, and it's silly to not be able to block them entirely.

To be clear, blocking someone today does mean you won't see their posts or comments.

I see comments from people I have blocked all the time on other peoples posts.

Are you using the legacy site or an older app version?

The current site as it is.
