Why would they do this? The only upside I can see is they want to pump up the daily active numbers / engagement

I'm so glad they fixed something that was not broken to begin with >:(

Someone in usersub newest saw boobs for an hour. Does this mean usersub rising will see boobs?

5 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

That was an interesting post, if it's the one I found, I was wondering if it just lasted so long since it did not have nipples.

5 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Nah that would affect their ability to be bought up by some large corpo

5 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

That’s enshitification!

My theory is it's a passive aggressive stunt to show us all how much they moderate spam and bots to deflect away from how much they ignore.

It's always been crap, not the crap is a shit soup. Wet and nasty and extremely smelly. Thanks mods

I wonder if they're really doing it to make their engagement numbers look way better so that MediaLabs can sell it.

5 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

in short, imgur admits they want the spam bots and are actively encouraging them.

5 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

Still won't let you filter out the community event notifications or ICYMI posts, either.

5 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

They were impressed with Trump's tariffs and figured they could do the same here.

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I feel like their focus should be reigning in the mods...

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Don't worry, in the next couple of weeks they will be rolling out the AI auto tagging and filtering system that runs in the background so you won't even know what you aren't seeing anymore. I'm sure it will work perfectly and not be used in a corrupt manner.

My theory is that they're making it bad now on purpose to make the AI release feel better

Make things worse, faster—that’s the power of AI!

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I’m fearful this will lead to ALL feel good rainbow sunshine propagated posts that lack any depth or meaning. We won’t be able to address problems in the world or our lives to look for support and lift one another up.
What happens to the free pizza angel posts or the trans support, the calling out rapists and pedophiles in the maga Nazi party? BURIED all buried to appease the ad purchasers. Sun shine fucking farts

The fact of the matter is that it takes control of tagging a post away from the person making the post. And give that control to "An AI". AI have been faulty at best at even basic tasks, and we dont know who controls this AI, or what their goal is.

The Mods throw a bunch of positive language at it, but it doesnt change the fact that it only benefits them. Less work, less accountability. Its a win win.

5 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Oh fuck I didn’t realize we couldn’t tag it on our own too. No more made up funny tags god damn it

5 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Sorry, i was a little confusing. I imagine people will still be able to add their own tags, but even so, it still doesnt stop the AI from adding whatever tags it wants, and then defining what tags people are allowed to see, in the background, completely out of our control.

Is this a good time to discuss what's happened to the search function? I can't be the only one who noticed that you can't simply input queries and hit return to search. Now, instead, you must select what it deems as acceptable Tags, Posts of Users, and I can't understand why it was thought that narrowing the results to a straw's diameter would enhance end-user's ability to find content.

Never attribute to malice that which can be easily explained by stupidity… and it’s getting harder and harder to argue stupidity

5 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

No wonder it’s suddenly so shitty down in Usersub again.

5 months ago | Likes 86 Dislikes 0

Ahhh, that explains so much when I got home from work just now. I do newest front page and ... yeeesh, been a little sour.

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

maybe they are trying to sell the platform and need to inflate their numbers. its the only reason I can imagine making such a drastic change that clearly no one wants

5 months ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 2

Yep. It's happening.

5 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

What's happening? I can't even tell.

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Management thought it was a good idea to turn off the filters for usersub. I didn’t think this would hit FP and it was obvious to anyone on user sub that it was a horrible decision

5 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

remove minor censorship bot = annoy people. people complain request censorship bot again.

Fucking bring back even heavier censorship than was there in the first place and claim the people asked for it all. ignouring the specifics

5 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Damn I didn't even consider that but it would make sense. It is unfortunate they took away posting anonymously as they could have forced those posts out of usersub and required brand new accounts to go through a captcha or something before being allowed to post. Hell I can think of 100 more solutions but they clearly aren't interested in solving the problem

5 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I don't know man, I found boobs and more user sub for the first time in years... im willing to put up with some old school imgur. Its like treasure hunting

5 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Where they good boobs?

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

lol that is fair, and to each their own. I'm under no impression that Imgur was made for me specifically. I'm just going to miss you guys when I inevitably move on to something that better aligns to my world view. Or at the very least where its up for debate

@op I asked about this yesterday and blown corporate smoke :/

5 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

and thanks for more details! that was why I made this post, it took me forever to figure out what was going on with the app the last few days

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I'm not inherently against auto tagging posts. I wouldn't mind seeing a little less furry culture in my life personally. But do I trust Imgur to go about it the right way? absolutely not.

I was here 2000 years ago when the two day long reign of terror that was butthole bot assaulted us.

So many buttholes…

5 months ago | Likes 67 Dislikes 0

Id rather have butthole bot back than the shitty Russian GTA screenshots and truck simulator skins

5 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Oh man I remember that. Good times...

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Here you go (for nostalgia purposes):

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So if one were to somehow get a botnet to post "the gif" endlessly for a while, imgur would fix it pretty quickly right? Seems like a bad idea, no one with any technical know-how should do such a heinous thing.

5 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I remember and it was awesome

5 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

at least the butthole bot made me feel something. This feels worse somehow

5 months ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

Butthole Bot was indeed revelatory.

5 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Fill me in, as someone too scared to UserSub; what's going on down in the trenches?

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So instead of sifting through 50 posts to find a gem I was sifting through 1000 and getting nothing but gta screenshots

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

First they made it so anyone posting had to make an account even if it was just to upload a one time screenshot. Then they turned off moderation so bot content was able to run free. It was just a flood of low quality content. Which sounds funny coming from usersub but it was really really low quality

5 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

There was a butthole bot? That's actually hilarious.

5 months ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

… And it was rather prolific too.

5 months ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Don't worry I got you friend.
