Golf course I used to play has a periscope on a par 4 that had the green beyond a rise, so you can make sure it's clear before you tee off (or not clear, depending on who's in front of you.)

That’s good “yankee” thinking. I’d have just installed bollards in the road at 100x the cost

Galileo?

Wow. I'm genuinely impressed - I wouldn't have thought of that in a million years.

Nerd is a term of endearment now. We took it for our own. Pass it on.

4D chess man.

Probably someone grieving the loss of family or friends

There are things I look at/for when buying a home, aside from the things a home inspector looks for. Ex: Elevation of the home - below or above the road and neighbors? I don't want all the flood water draining into my house. Also, traffic. Hills and curves and is there a stop sign right in front my house (noise)? Or, worse, is the house facing a T intersection where headlights will be beaming into the windows all night long, or where a drunk, and his car, will end up in my house?

I infer that there are a lot of people in their neighbourhood who don't know not to drive at high speed into a patch of road they can't see.

All over the US. It's an epidemic of assholery.

I mean I learned it in driver's Ed, you slow down for hills like that, but in reality I think most people either don't think about it at all or just hope for the best

We need to implement more Periscopes in our life. I wish I had one on my car so I could see over the dipshit mega tiny pp truck driver.

mega tiny, ubersmall, gigatit

Clearly a smarter nerd than you, one that doesn't want to have to un-bend their car.

The one who bought the house CHEAP, from a family of paraplegic accident victims, then immediately lost 2 cars trying to pull out of their driveway.

I had no idea the movie used an edited version. I heard the full one recently and went "There's more!?" Not as succinct, though.

Best version of Anchors Aweigh I have ever heard, though! Even though it's only the first verse, gives me chills every time

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hm? That's 'In The Navy', lol.

I know, I was remarking that Down Periscope has the best version of Anchors Aweigh I have heard

Can't even fathom how this would work

4 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

fwiw I was just making the inevitable pun around periscopes

4 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yes, that's why I used the word "fathom"

4 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I thought I was good with puns but I'm out of my depth here

4 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I didn't mean to be so shallow

:groan: I missed that one

Without industrious geniuses we would not have modern medicine that created the dialysis machine that recently kept my wife alive, I don’t say nerd any longer

You have my permission.

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No. You say with PRIDE! Those nerds worked long hours in the library mines, building a database of useless facts and sacrificing their social score so that they could COMBINE the facts into SCIENCE and suck you wife's blood to sort it into "Good" and "Bad" then put the good where it belonged...and I guess they throw the bad away? I'm not nerdy enough to know it, but I bet they do more science with it. nerdy science...with...with beakers.

All hail the beakers and other sciencey stuff !!

Nerd isn't a bad word

4 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

If anything I'd take it as a complement, like, smart, and with a healthy appetite for knowledge

4 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yes

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What else are you supposed to call the fucken nerds that invented that stuff?

4 months ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Heroes ... *eagle screams* Patriots ... *two eagles scream* Saviors ... *three eagles scream and The Liberty Bell is mended by the healing hand of Jesus* /s

Intellectuals?

Nerds (compliment)
I didn't speak for all nerds but I know I like being called a nerd because for me and my group of friends it has lost all negativity.
