I'd have thought that the double line would indicate substance present? But the chart on the pack suggests positive? Why would something react to "not present"?

Mazel tov! It's a boy!

Single line, right indicates "positive". I have no idea how long THC is "in the system"
5knotcans
How much thc did you smoke before taking the test?
ninetails
Haven't smoked in weeks.
KafkasKarma
If you have smoked on a regar basis, the test will be positive for a longer period of time. It's like your body builds up reserves and needs more time to wash it out.

Id get a clearer brand of test next time (instructions are usually on the box) but yes, that shows as positive.
MarkoffChaney
Positive. Invalid line would be in the other end (nearer the arrows) and negative would be two lines. Depends on the reagent weather positive is line or absent of line. Maybe it's so that positive and invalid test stands out more from the negatives, if you have to scan thru lot of these.

That's a fail my friend

That's a fail, according to the chart. As to why they chose that particular chemical reaction, no idea. Maybe someone smarter can fill us in.
SleepyKitten
I thought so too. But I believe the test strip markings saying THC are supposed to match the black end of the test strip diagram. So that would be a positive test result. I agree with someone else's comment that OP should look for a better testing kit; one that's less confusing.
OregonComputerGuy
Congrats, you're high
gwad
It's invalid or negative. The 2nd line is really faint on there so they might consider it negative since you can see it but I'm not a pee test expert.
conklin5
You confused the results by putting it in your butt.
SacrificialClam
Articles I am finding online appear to show that others drugs tests also use this indicator system where no line indicates positive, though I don't know the science behind it compared to something like a COVID test where the opposite is true. There is a very faint second line, which for other tests would appear to indicate a negative result.
SacrificialClam
But it would be good to use a second test, different brand, to confirm because of how faint it is.

Seems invalid
