Not necessarily attack and defense are two different things.

#2 can prevent some injuries but #1 covers the times it doesn’t (is necessary not to in order achieve the a greater goal).
Also #1 lets you recover from stabs and punctured, but let you choose to get/keep tattoos & piercings.
#2, though not mentioned, can be offensive. Especially if increasing density doesn’t deduct momentum inherently (friction/gravity normally obviously but won’t matter in the short term - like when a punch suddenly gains 2000 lbs before landing).
