My dream is to work at a spooky haunted old library. Has dark secretive sections covered in cobwebs and you walk around with a candle searching for cursed books.
The enlightenment started here- private libraries, collecting books, condensed down into encylopaedias.. it all spiraled from here. And it can spiral from here again.. reconquisita of the public - because the right has no path to progress, no ideas
Many libraries require formal qualifications to become librarians. Often it takes more than a year to achieve these. Also, if I remember correctly OP may have some neuro-differences that makes being a librarian difficult, although it appears he's a valued member of the team.
Also, to be granted psyker powers I believe you need to defeat at least three level 2 librarians in a test of wits & strength. But that might differ depending on which State you're in.
Me too! So glad to see you're still there! I hope there was some cake in the breakroom to celebrate your anniversary. Librarians are good people. Public libraries are vital to society. I hope you're still enjoying your job & proud of the contribution you make <3
Hey. I know how important libraries are - as a young reader, the county library was practically a second home. But I realize I haven't really done anything proactive in regards to libraries as I've done in other charitable areas.
If I wanted to help protect libraries, either on a nationwide scale or locally, is there advice you'd have to go about it? Charities to seek out or those to avoid?
I'm in NZ so for more specific advice, I'd go directly to the source. My predecessor reached out to the public library where our agency works & offered to help them - they used her as a POC for our area of expertise & when she moved to Aus I took over that role (I work with several overlapping groups, including Rape Crisis & the Rainbow Network). It's mostly just community engagement stuff with the occasional referral. Our cooperation also helps significantly with meeting goals that can be
leveraged with the local council, proving that our agencies (& it's mutually beneficial) are good for the public, keeping records of the crossover engagement & supporting each other's applications whenever the issue of budget arises. Some free talks, activities, specialized information etc. A lot of record-keeping. But on the personal level I also make a small donation to the local library every year, & there's a modest bequest in my will.
One of the best ways I've learned to support the libraries is by simply keeping an eye on the City Council agendas for anything that mentions the library, anything that asks for public submissions etc. I try to turn up to those town hall events, to try & make sure the positives of libraries are championed, even if there are only a dozen others in the hui. Speaking up with a supportive voice. Emails. Discourse. It's pretty boring, but it works. People remember.

Surely after a year you don't need to be an intern anymore? When do they promote you to Librarian and you get your cool psyker powers?
