It's true and I refuse to accept otherwise

So like, I was curious about why people liked to watch professional wrestling and so decided to read the wikipedia page on it. Like okay, sure, fights can be fun to watch, but like these dudes have wacky costumes and stuff so there has to be more to it.

... and well, I was right.... I went down one hell of a rabbit hole filled with weirdly deep lore and plot twists and just all around wild events from murder to mass cheating on partners to zombie dads coming back from the dead to kick their sons rear in. Which doesn't even begin to touch on how wild this stuff gets... like jeez.

That being said, yup, I get why people enjoy it now.

Pretty much every "reality" show in the U.S. is a scripted soap opera to one degree or another. Some just aren't quite as blatant about it, like the hundreds of interchangeable ones that feature the most generic white people pretending to buy and/or restore houses, or all the ones about gold mining that try so, so, *so* desperately — and almost endearingly — hard to be even remotely interesting.

I have heard it called "red neck anime"

Yea. And?

I believe if you never got into as a child, it’s really hard to understand or get into as an adult.

They know, that's the point.

I didn't get it for years either, lol. But yeah, it's purposely over the top and silly.

WWE is just Redneck anime.

South Park covered this a couple years ago, or maybe a decade ago, I can't remember.

It's homoerotic and only slightly socially acceptable, which makes it super rebellious for questioning young people and deep in the closet old people to enjoy together.

The fact is, most of the general population is attracted to humans, not genders. Sexual proclivities can insect with what we find entertaining but in general it's just dick waving to me. Even the girls do it (I love the type of woman that could kick my ass spike style). Plenty of dudes watch straight up soaps, they may like the "romance" which is just as bad as entertainment wrestlers

I love certain storylines to the point where I rewatch them. I love certain characters, that I will rewatch their promos, storylines and in ring action. But I also enjoy the athleticism in the ring and knowing that most of the time no one gets hurt on purpose.

It definitely is macho. It’s macho soap opera.

It's just plain fun to watch.

It's lowbrow theater where, at any given moment, someone could break their neck.

Might be low brow, but it is OH MY GOD FROM THE TOP ROPE

Wow, that is super on point haha.

if you can at all, go to a local event! they're way more common than you might think and tend to be extremely wholesome fun for the whole family. cheaper than movie tickets. my partner & i are super invested in to one particular storyline and character at our local Company (BANANA!)

With luck, you can watch a young up-and-comer grow into the next big thing, like I used to do Kenny Omega around Winnipeg
