After trying numerous different setups this is what I ended up enjoying the most. Just my personal preference.

Because I like tiling windows and having a DM to help with other stuff... Aka didn't want to give up a full DM for just a wm

AHH but then that isn't KDE+i3. What you have is closer to mine, awesomeWM (tiling) and pcmanfm-qt for filebrowser

Fine then it's plasma + i3 better.... I still have access to all the KDE features.
