I'm working on a project. It's a bit of a weird one and requires weird assistance.
I need scans/hi-res pics of damaged Magic: The Gathering cards, and the stories behind them.
I'm printing a full 100 card singleton Commander Deck that will be distressed, damaged, and destroyed as it will never see protective sleeves, a deck box, or any care to it.

I was poor, and keeping my cards tidy is an OCD poverty thing for me... so I don't have any truly 'damaged' cards that I haven't had to throw away over the years, and this has made the problem hard.
I've reached out to the MTG community on multiple platforms... but truly messed up cards are rare, and I need many of them to make the digital masks I use to distress cards.

I've gotten amazing stories so far. Expensive cards thrown into campfires by jealous exes. Moms washing an entire collection hidden in pants after summer camp, cards ripped and cut and mildewed, scuffed and rubber-banded and riffle shuffled.

I turn them into things like this. I add silly grafitti, notes, etc. I'm about 10% of the way through the deck... and I'd like more wonderful stories to share with folks I play the deck against.

So here's the deal:
If you have some? Take a pic or scan them! I would prefer images with a high MP as they're easier to manipulate on the scale and DPI I'm working with, and in PNG or other lossless form. The card itself doesn't matter... just the damage and the story behind it.

I don't know how far this may reach, but hopefully I'll get a few doozies to recall as I run this Monument to trading card kintsugi at events and online.
And if it makes you feel any better, the commander is silly.

Count Tax.
If you can help, I'd be grateful. I'd like to get the project done over the winter as my PT/OT team says I may, may be up for travel by then. It's been almost 3 years since I've been out of hospital or able to really do anything but wheel myself around my house or limited residential area, so I'd greatly appreciate any help you can provide.

In middle school, billions of years ago (4th edition times) a kid asked me to show him my cards. So I opened the long box and he smeared a dirty hand on all of the cards. 20 something years later, fuck you Fritz. I still have most of the cards though.

I don't play magic but this is a worthy quest

I could ask my brother.. he had 450,000 $ worth of magic cards in storage, but our older brother wanted to store his bike, so moved the boxes out and left them in the rain. It caused a schism in our family, with my and my brother on the one side, and everyone else who didn’t see why he was so upset on the other (clearly not believing the value of unopened revised and unlimited boxes, some betas and cards up through stronghold. It was his kids inheritance. :/ we still don’t talk to them

Did he willingly let the boxes stay in the rain or did he intend to move them to another dry location but forgot? Or did he think the boxes would be waterproof? Personally I could forgive stupid but honest mistakes, but if that's not the case than that was a shit move even if the content was worthless

I'd stab a bitch over that...

I favorited and will see what I have. A friend of mine abused the shit out of most of his cards. I now have some, but I’ll have to do some digging.

Not sure how to link the picture, but I was taking a walk around the block a found a lone MtG card on the edge of the sidewalk. This happened a few more times that week. Almost felt like someone was doing it on purpose just to fuck with me haha.

Depends, which cards were they? Something like "Suffer the past"? " Price of knowledge"? "Die young"? "Red-Hot Hottie"? "Beloved princess "?

I have a bunch, I'll see what I can find. Some are proxies, my wife also accidentally wash one of my daughter's decks in the washing machine... so yeah

I was also very careful with my cards so I don't have many damaged ones, but I scored this Leech from a booster and THE NEXT DAY it fell off my dresser and my puppy decided it was a new chew toy (top right)

I don't have anything to contribute (I'm very protective of my cards) but your pictures and stories made me shudder.
Hopefully the frontpage can help, and I expect another post when your deck is complete!

This one was intentionally defaced with a sharpie for the lulz. I specifically bought it from my local card shop's quarter commons bin to do this to it.
