I hope they have a lot of fun with it. I'll be honest, I love the whole hyper realism approach to fantastical things, I also really love when actors get to just be silly and have fun with it, and I hope that's what they do with this. Like I would absolutely love if the whole time leto is doing a ridiculously over the top impression of the old cartoony voice
Meanwhile, I learned a while back that they're planning a Live Action version of HTTYD, which is probably my favorite nostalgia franchise (even if I still havent gotten my hands on the original books). I know damn well that this is in part to extend licensing rights and such (or so I heard ages back when the reason WHY remakes and such keep happening even if they turn a loss), but I still dread what is likely going to be something that utterly fails to capture the spirit of the original movies.
Ok so I'm finally gonna ask- what's with all the Jared leto hate? I've heard one or two things a little off color about his personal beliefs or something, but the hate always seems to come from his acting. Unpopular opinion - I didn't think morbius was all that bad 🤷 does it deserve an award? God no. But I got from it what I got from the Snyder cut, less than I was hoping for and more than I was expecting. I think he's a good actor, not a great one, but a good one. There's a weird duality -
Honestly! He wants to act in big sci-fi movies, and he completely lacks presence or charisma and is usually the weakest thing on screen, but he only takes roles where he is supposed to be a towering malefactor, and he just seems like a preening prep boy
He’s just a douche. He’s a musician and he doesn’t call his fans ‘fans’ he calls them ‘the echelon’ cause he wants it to be a movement. He sent used condoms and a dead pig and a live rat to his coworkers during the suicide squad shooting because he wanted ‘to break down barriers’ in his method acting. He takes his own bullshit too far in ways that are not positive to those around him. He’s basically just an asshole.
That exists in almost every facet of our culture right now- and the relevant ones are as follows- first of the big one that I'm not even going to touch right now, the separation of the art from the artist, we all pick and choose who gets more leeway rather than an across the board 'this is ok or this is not ok'. So only speaking on film work as an actor, again good not great. He doesn't transcend many roles, but he does what the director fucking tells him to. Like every other actor. Sure, -
He is responsible for the depth of the well a director can pull from (speaking on all actors), but it's the director's job to say do this or say that in this certain way, etc. and more specifically the director's job to say 'yes, thats it, lets move on '. So why do we always shit on the actors rather than the writers who made them and the directors who controlled them?
Yet Inversely, we keep certain actors on their pedestals when they make shit movies, why? Ok the last related duality I will bring up for now: the Marvel vs DC shit. Ever since Guardians 1 (with exceptions), we've all bitched how Disney just keeps beating any algorithm to death that worked one time, among other things. We also know that DC straight up cannot compete with the robustness that Disney throws its money at (again, justice league). Both we and they know they cannot compete head-on like
that. So they have to try to deliver in other ways, smaller more intimate stories, obscure shit, etc. The wild thing is that for years, up until the Disney acquisition (gotta give credit to things like moon girl), animated DC stood leagues over Marvel. They are trying to pivot and we are shitting mercilessly all over them for it. Even though in the same breath we say how tired we are of the played out Disney algorithm schtick.
And we've also seen just how much public opinion can sway the production of media, who knows how much of that happens where these days. Fans have been known for ruining a lot. So maybe we all just chill out and let them cook. Why are we all so judgemental now anyway? We will all have a much better time if we just drop our judgements and expectations with these kinds of things and return to our childlike wonder

This is a level of shenanigans Skeletor would be proud of

I would like an actually decent "Dark Tower, gunslinger" series/movie. A trilogy would be great.

Everyone who keeps making live action and "live action" remakes should be beaten with a large stick until they cease.

They made a live sction He-Man back in the 80s with Dolph Lundgren. It was awesome

And maybe for a few minutes after just to let the lesson sink in.
