I hate the capitalist structure that forces zoos to turn what should be centers of wildlife conservation, rehabilitation, and study into a permanent circus for people who couldn't give two shits about the natural world.
Ah yes, I can definitely see that. I would do this when I lived in New Mexico for a while...but since I had to move back home about 6 years ago...not much to do in south Texas where the only season is micro dosing hell and the only real places to go are the movies and the mall...I rarely go out....but yes, I did use to "explore my own city" when I lived in Albuquerque. I've felt like I need to "touch grass" for the longest time. I need to connect with real nature.

My mother used to raise butterflies when I was a child. I was traumatized when we let one go and a bird instantly ate it

Is it a bad thing that I started wondering how big of a rainbow a zoo could make using some sprinkler system?

Yeah, I guessed it might be something like that.
Check out the micro adventures link I put in the last comment.
That was a cool mindset shift for me when I was stuck in a place without much money.
Would be curious what you could come up with.
