Finally getting around to uploading some of the home updates.
We got a nice new dining room table for the kitchen/dining area.

The fan light overhead was a little flickery the first couple months that we were in the house, so we barely used it. Also, a fan to collect dust and blow air all over in the place where I eat? No thanks, buddy.
After much deliberation, we finally found a light that suited our needs as well as a dimmer switch to go with. We got to be pretty comfortable with electrical work at this point, so we figured it would take an hour or two. We started around 10 AM.

Well that thing was really on there. This part of the house was an addition, and although we're not sure exactly when, I'm guessing someone snuck this past the inspectors. We weren't putting ceiling boxes in 30 years ago? At least the fan was secured on a beam?
Three trips to the hardware store later (Menards 2, Lowe's 1), we were able to install a ceiling box to the stud and eventually find a custom bracket that would fit the box. The bracket that came with the light didn't fit on standard ceiling boxes.

Ceiling box, bracket, and light finally installed in place. Now we just had to get to the wiring, and...

This is actually much further into the repair process. Again, forgot to take more of the interim photos, but there was just a random black wire that was cut, not capped, kinda worried about electrocuting the house or... me. It was a little confusing due to there previously being a fan/light combo but we eventually found out what went to what and then capped any wires that were not in use.

The opposite wall was not much better.
After the fact, I'm aware grounding of non-conductive switches may not be necessary, but we replaced outlets that weren't grounded in other parts of the house, so we just thought everything was wrong. The wago nuts help a bit in these situations.
From the presence of shadows I bet you can guess how long this 1-2 hour project was taking.

We have a functioning circuit.

And after about an hour of clean up.

Side view.

Love those Edison bulbs. We got a similar one for our bathroom recently, fucking awesome!

That fixture is gorgeous in there! Well worth the effort. Thought something seemed familiar.. I have the exact same dining chairs!

Great work! And yes, all "simple home projects" end up taking soo much longer than expected. When I tell my wife "a couple hours" (1/2)

She knows that means I'll be working on it all day ?
