I have been lucky enough to get to hold one of these birds. Very lightweight and ya, that mouth is huge

There are species of nightjars native to North America. We tend to call them nighthawks here. They come out just before dusk and feed on swarms of insects that are hanging out in the dying rays of the sun.

That does not look like any Nighthawk I've ever seen.

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I got super lucky with one hanging out on my fence last year!

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nice boid

Fuck off that's not a real bird. That's was made in the Jim Henson workshop but cut out of the Dark Crystal.

1 month ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Plot twist: It's both. All the creatures in The Dark Crystal were just weird animals Jim Henson trapped and filmed.

Thought it was taxidermy until she moved

Thank you!

I have a rescue parrot I've fallen in love with but man birds are freaky. I say this as my bird is singing along to Disney music and making fart noises, but seriously they're kinda terrifying.

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

They're dinosaurs after all

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Looks like that off brand Chewbacca from the Christmas special

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Jesus christ. Thought it was a stuffed one until it moved.

Caprimulgids are very cool birds.

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If you think they look like muppets from the side, you should see them looking straight at the camera.

It's kind of a shame that there isn't a Tawny Frogmouth muppet on the Muppet Show.

1 month ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

It's time to play the music
It's time to light the lights
It's time to meet the Muppets
On The Muppet Show tonight

G'day fugly.

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

Why does it have human eyes?

1 month ago | Likes 162 Dislikes 0

It collects them, and uses different eye colors for different events.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Go in the woods without safety glasses and find out.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It was a belief that they took the eyes of the dead. After eating enough, they would slowly start having more human behavior like the way our eyes curl when we laugh, or mimicking our voices. In fact, they were said to even think like us, like how you think this is real.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It doesn't. It has Tawny Frogmouth eyes.

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Because it's soul is human.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

All the better to see you with, my dear

1 month ago | Likes 76 Dislikes 0

Noooooooo , the creepy wooden bird from my nightmares!

1 month ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

To use those glasses, duh

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It likes to collect them. Everybody who asked got their eyes stolen, so the answer is unknown.

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Stolen.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just wait till you see the fish...

1 month ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

pacu, heard they were tasty. along with piranha. They are tetras, relatives of the ever popular little neon tetra

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Had a dream I opened my mouth and my teeth looked like this. Scared me awake

1 month ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Well why do you have Tawny Frogmouth eyes?

1 month ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 0

I found them. They are mine fair and square.

1 month ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

. . .

Where did you find ‘SQUARE’ Tawny Frogmouth eyes?!

1 month ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

How many humans do you know with yellow irises?

1 month ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

The ones with liver issues

1 month ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I was going to say my Uncle who passed last year but that was too dark even for me.

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Do you mean sclera?

1 month ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Those are just irises. Humans are actually kind of the odd ones out, having such prominent sclera. *Most* other animals' sclera aren't visible unless looking to the side, prevailing thought is that human sclera as so visible as a social feature. Make the face more expressive and make it easier to tell where someone is looking

1 month ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No, I mean irises; they're nocturnal, and their pupils are quite large.

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That wasn’t a dunk, that was an air ball: they’re completely incorrect.

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Shit. I stand corrected. I can only apologise.
