I've posted everywhere appropriate, so now I'm here too. Introducing DOOMbuilder, a deckbuilding game in the vein of Pokemon DBG, the Cryptozoic line of DC Deckbuilding games, Star Wars DBG, and even Quarriors (a dice deckbuilder.) If you know how to play any of these already, you'll be right at home here! If not, they're simple enough in concept; I'll walk you through it real quick:
#doom #cardgame #cards #tabletop_simulator #tabletop_games

Every turn you draw 5 cards. You play those cards to get resources (Damage and Energy) which let you buy new, better cards to add to your deck. Oftentimes those cards will do other things, like let you search for or draw more cards, find more cards to buy, give you discounts, defend you, or even attack other players to slow them down!

One of the things you can buy are Demons, which you gain by killing them (dealing Damage equal to their Threat); this is called Fragging, and sometimes there are added effects when you do. Demons will fight back, though; when they enter the Line-Up (the rotating stock of available cards each turn) they'll hit whoever's turn it is with a Demon Attack. If you don't have a Defense to play, you'll have to suffer its effects...!

Damage buys Threat, so what does Energy do..? It lets you pay the Cost of cards you can't shoot! Energy can (usually) be converted into Damage, but NOT the other way around. So the Damage of this Rifle can only kill Demons (or blow things up, complete challenges, etc) but the Energy you get from killing a Demon with it can be used to buy stuff like Pickups, other Weapons, helpful Allies, or even rare and powerful Secrets...

Okay cool, so you can buy better cards... but how do you win? Well, every card you can add to your Arsenal (your deck) is worth XP. Better cards are worth more XP, and some cards (like Levels) are worth huge chunks at a time and may not go into your deck at all, but simply give you XP. Whoever has the most XP at the end of the game wins.

The game ends when all Levels have been completed. Levels can be completed with Damage (to hit their Threat) but before you can finish each Level, you have to beat its Encounter. Sometimes this is a simple challenge, like killing enough Demons. Sometimes it's a timed survival challenge, like stopping a reactor from exploding and blowing up your best cards. Sometimes it's a Boss, and completing it also unlocks a rare and powerful card for your deck that only one person can have......

You need to have Tabletop Simulator, obviously; if you don't own it already, any Steam Key seller out there has it for at or under $5, and owning TTS basically means you own every board/card game ever made. Everyone should have it, unless they're some sort of weird normie who hates boardgames. :P

You'll also want a headset and mic; yes, talking to people is scary, but trying to play a cardgame like this without talking or typing speed via text chat..... it's possible, but I don't recommend it.

Finally, you'll need time. Even the fastest DBGs are longer games; it's not uncommon to save and come back later to resume/finish a game. This iteration is only the first 2/3rds of the game, so *experienced* players might be able to knock it out in under 90 minutes.... but I advise having at least 2-3 hours available per session.

If you're interested, you can message me here or on Discord. (My name is the same everywhere.) Naturally there's a Discord server for the playtest, too.
