Did you see all the anti-Trump protests? And the vast majority of Americans do not approve of what Trump and the Republicans are doing. America isn't "a cesspool of hatred", but it does have many eddies of it.
A cesspool is filled with sewage. Notably you often do use drinkable water to flush, but once it mixes in with everything else, it's still part of that sewage.
The protests are a good start and absolutely should continue, but as you point out, the bar for what's considered a decent person is so low in the US that "not approving of Trump" is seen as good enough. Your vast majority is only a majority at all because you're including the people who didn't bother to vote to stop this.
I mean, ca. 1/3 of voting age Americans actively voted for racist, misogynistic & anti-LGBT policies. Another 1/3 knew that a trump win would harm women, immigrants, people of color, and the LGBT com (especially trans individuals). Yet this 1/3 couldn't be arsed to vote & help prevent this nightmare. It takes a certain hatred to say "fuck all these demographic groups, it's more important that my white male ass teaches the DEMs a lesson or takes a stance on things happening in a faraway country".
some of it is also people who don't (or claim to not) care about any of that to the point of having their heads firmly lodged in the sand during elections. they are already successfully propagandized into believing that republicans are "fiscal" somehow and that republican leadership is the best thing for their pocketbooks. heck they'd even vote for a democrat as long as said democrat went along with "fiscal republican policy!" far from an excuse. still callous and willfully ignorant, imo.
'The pond is not a cesspool! It's just the top layer covered in scum!'
Yes, but that top layer of scum can choke out all the rest of the pond, depriving everything else of the light and oxygen needed to live and grow, until the pond is naught but a cesspool.

Mexico is so awesome. It's the people. The culture shock happens when you return to the USA. Suddenly people are not as nice or friendly.

At first, I thought it was an OK Go music video

Indeed. The march was banned by the government - record number of people participated in defiance. Because fuck them, that's why.

A good chunk of the Mexican Catholic vote swung for Trump cause as long as women are losing more rights than the men, they're good

Sounds like that top layer needs to be burned off.

Couldn't agree more. Or guillotines, or whichever tool removes the particular scum best.
