Microsoft says it’s cool so it must be

Jun 30, 2025 5:02 PM

There it is, there’s the buried lede.

I am not smart enough to predict where this will head in the near future. For all I know, this could be the technology that helps reduce the misdiagnoses in clinical settings.

But I do know capitalism, and its temple that is the US of A. For every 1 benefit out of this technology, there will be 9 horrors that come out of it. I don’t trust Microsoft (hence the insane Linux setup at home) and that’s my biggest red flag with this news. I also know the current administration has decided to forge the path for AI deployment in every aspect of our lives. There is no regulatory body (anymore) that can hold Microsoft and the AI companies accountable.

I need a medical expert, someone who knows the medical industry, and the current concerns in misdiagnosis. Time to annoy my sibling, they work in healthcare.

Fuck you and your sex bot. LLMs dont work like that. Stop trying to stick something that tells you to "eat glue" and "jump off a bridge" into a zero fault tolerance setting.

“Without access to colleagues or textbooks.” What a crock of shit. No specialist is expected to isolate themselves from the sum total of domain specific knowledge except to prove they meet the minimum standard for competence and licensure. Find me a llm that can smell schizophrenia.

AI is cool in the sense that we can train a barcode scanner to detect cancer cells. It should never be used as a replacement for human creativity. It does not have the ability to cite its references.

It is possible that AI can make life a lot more bearable, faster court systems for a start.
AI has been proven to have fewer prejudice in its decisions, still some because of the prejudice of its programmers but that can be addressed.
Fingers crossed that European nations carry on the work they have been doing, waste of time to hope USA or China efforts amount to much.

LLMs: good at forms and emails

Says the company that provide us with easily compromised operating systems.

If it is, then smart doctors will use it to help diagnoses

"Company selling product says product is good" holy shit really?

The fact that I can believe it says more about the medical community than it does about AI

If it's good then let it be the shareholders and upper management show it's good by being the first ones using it and televise the results

We don’t have a choice at this point, regardless.

Speaking from more years of experience than I care to admit, if Microsoft says something is cool it most assuredly is not.

Doctors in the United States take about the same time that it takes to go through a fast food drive-thru. I have no doubt that AI can actually do a better job than a real doctor and diagnosing complex issues, simply because real doctors in the United States put in solo effort.

I agree in theory, however I fear AI in this space will be just a more efficient way to extract more value from patients and insurance/public funding. I guess it all comes down to who is pulling the levers.

We'll of course. However, doctors have made significant mistakes with my healthcare that have radically altered my life for the worse. In addition, a computerized system, essentially a check list, is not susceptible to afternoon fatigue. Of course checks and balances would be needed, but in the US & other 3rd would medical systems, especially politically & $ motivated ones, one might be able to receive healthcare from a digital assistant from the outside world, at least with finding a diagnosis.

"... who had no access to colleagues, text books, or chat bots..." So, one doctor relying on memory was outperformed by a super computer with access to all the world's medical data.

honestly though, AI is all about learning based on patterns. it absolutely could end up being better than the average doctor at diagnosing issues. it's not perfect for everything, and that would include this, but people who are 100% against AI literally just don't understand it.

I'm pretty anti-AI but it's not because I don't think it can be useful. It's because I don't trust humans to use it properly and fully expect them to just treat it as a magical answer machine.

The real problem is it could very likely end up better at a large swath of jobs. But who will pay for the food and housing for all these unemployed people? It's coming too fast without proper nets in place.

yeah i mean we definitely need to get such social services set up, but if a machine diagnoses better than a human doctor you can bet your ass i'd much rather have the machine diagnose my issue.

We are only human, and no one person can be Dr House.
AI is, and should only be used as a tool.
It is not a replacement for professional opinion, just an aid.

DR HOUSE ISNT REAL EITHER

Lupus is real therefore House must be real

I can’t argue that.

It is well known that neural networks are much better than humans on recognising patterns.
There is a legend about the AI targeted advertisement system that started sending one woman a baby product ads based on her recent purchase history. After some time that woman did the test and learned that she was indeed pregnant.
AI has a great potential on saving lives even just by early diagnosing the dangerous conditions. And it is also actively used in medical research to produce new medications.

Found the guy who thought glue was a great pizza additive because Google said so.

You found the guy who understand what he is saying, not just runs around waving hands screaming "damn AI is a fruit of satan, it takes all our jobs and ice cream" like an idiot.

Okay, here you go dipshit: https://www.cnn.com/2025/01/08/business/ai-job-losses-by-2030-intl But I'm sure your job is safe, after all, typing prompts and outputting shit you know nothing about is truly a skilled trade only accessible but the most intelligent people.

Mechanical loom left thousands of highly skilled workers without living. People who invested decades into developing their professional skills and had families to feed. Mechanical loom is an invention of satan and has to be destroyed.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

The luddites were not destroying looms because they replaced their jobs, they were destroying looms because the factory loom owners cut wages instead of allowing the laborers to make the same piece rate for less labor. Exactly like how AI is being used to pretend that skill workers are performing "less" work, so they can be paid less. Once again, AI pimp knows zero about history or sociology or context or anything really.
